Prayers for the Self and Family

Supplication

In linguistic terms, supplication refers to the act of calling upon Allah Almighty through words, raising one’s hands in prayer, and appealing and imploring Him. Allah says in the Quran: (When My servants ask you concerning Me, I am indeed close: I respond to the invocations of the supplicant when he calls on Me. So let them respond to Me and believe in Me, that they may be guided.) Among the most suitable times for a servant to make supplication are during the stillness of the night while others sleep, during prostration in prayer, on Fridays, and especially during the final part of the night.

Prayers for the Self

A devout Muslim endeavors to seek protection for themselves daily through supplication, fostering a heartfelt connection with Allah, expressing their hopes, needs, and beseeching Him, who is always near and responsive. Here are some beautiful supplications for oneself:

  • O Allah, I seek refuge with You from a heart that does not humble itself, a supplication that goes unheard, a soul that is never satisfied, and knowledge that does not benefit. O Allah, I seek refuge with You from these four.
  • O Lord, I implore You by Your majesty and glory, not to make my needs difficult, nor to amplify my troubles, nor to bend my stature, nor to expose my secrets, nor to break my back.
  • O Allah, I entrust all my affairs to You; adorn them with goodness as You will. Make me, O Lord, among those whom You gaze upon with mercy and hear their supplication, responding to them.
  • O Allah, heal my broken heart in a manner that astonishes the inhabitants of the heavens and the earth, healing that befits Your generosity, majesty, and power, O Lord.
  • O Allah, grant me well-being in my soul, my body, my heart, my health, and my strength; grant me well-being in this world and the Hereafter.
  • O Allah, I ask You for a good ending. Grant me sincere repentance before death. O Turner of hearts, make my heart steadfast in Your religion.
  • O Allah, I ask You for unwavering faith, eternal bliss, and companionship with our Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) in the highest paradise.
  • O Allah, remove from my heart all fears that dwell within me, all weaknesses that shatter me, and all matters that bring me sorrow; open my closed doors.
  • O Allah, do not make my trials be in my body, nor in my wealth, nor in my family; lighten what my soul finds burdensome.
  • O Allah, I ask You to elevate my mention, relieve my burdens, rectify my affairs, and forgive my sins.
  • O Allah, I place my trust in You; support me, grant me success, and mend my heart like You are its guardian.

Prayers for Family

It is commendable for an individual to remember their family and loved ones in their supplications, as they are invaluable blessings from Allah. Particularly significant is the prayer for parents. Here are some heartfelt prayers for family members:

  • O Allah, we ask You by Your most magnificent name, which when prayed with You respond, and when requested, You grant; by all Your beautiful names, known to us and unknown, answer our supplications, fulfill our wishes, relieve our burdens, forgive our sins, conceal our faults, grant us repentance, protect us, pardon us, improve our families and offspring, and shower us with Your vast mercy—a mercy that suffices us against the mercy of others.
  • O Allah, we seek all-encompassing mercy and forgiveness. Rectify our offspring and intentions, unite our hearts, conceal our shortcomings, alleviate our worries, heal our sick, have mercy on our deceased, honor our faith, expand our sustenance, extend our lifetimes in health and well-being, righteousness, and good deeds, and make our deceased a garden from the gardens of Paradise.
  • O Allah, relieve us of our pains, illuminate the darkness of our nights, grant us joy, and provide us with all avenues of good. O Almighty, who is there for the weak other than You? O Rich, who is there for the poor other than You? O Mighty, who is there for the humble other than You? Enrich us with what is lawful and save us from the forbidden, and suffice us with Your grace over others.
  • O Allah, heal any of my family and loved ones who are ill, remove the worries of those who are troubled, bring happiness to those who are sad, and bestow success to those who seek Your guidance.
  • O Allah, increase us and do not decrease us, honor us and do not disgrace us, grant us and do not deprive us, prefer us and do not put us at a disadvantage, and be pleased with us and pardon us.
  • O Allah, forgive our mistakes, overlook our faults, atone for our sins, and grant us death among the righteous. O Mighty, O Forgiving.
  • O Allah, grant us death as Muslims, keep us alive as Muslims, and unite us with the righteous, without disgrace or temptation.
  • O Allah, I seek refuge with You from the disobedience of children, the severing of family ties, and the betrayal of friends.
  • O Allah, make our supplications unrefused, grant us abundant livelihood, and open for us a door to Paradise that never closes.
  • O Allah, suffice us with what is lawful against what is forbidden, and make us among the victorious.
