Difference in Visual Acuity between Eyes

Corneal opacities may arise from congenital cataracts or traumatic incidents, affecting one eye and resulting in a less clear image compared to the healthy eye. This leads to over-reliance on the unaffected eye and neglect of the impaired one.

Covering One Eye

Covering an eye at an early age can lead to its weakening. If one eye must be covered due to a specific condition, such as a corneal ulcer, it is advisable to cover both eyes to prevent further impairment of the covered eye.

How to Treat Amblyopia

The likelihood of effectively treating amblyopia increases with early detection. Treatment approaches for lazy eye generally include the following:

  • Restoring image clarity by addressing the underlying issue, such as removing congenital cataracts through surgery.
  • Correcting refractive errors through prescription glasses, implanting a healthy lens, using contact lenses, or undergoing surgical interventions.
  • Occlusion therapy, where the non-affected eye is covered, under the guidance of a healthcare professional, based on the child’s age and the severity of the amblyopia.
