Verses of Praise

Verses in Praise of the Prophet

IBn Al-Jinan expresses admiration for the Prophet with the following lines:

Send blessings upon the best of creation

And the most esteemed who has attained glory

Send blessings upon the One whose presence

Honored Mecca, making it a source of sanctity

Send blessings upon the one of the highest lineage

Whose essence established greatness everywhere

Send blessings upon the Light that illuminated the dawn

Dispersing the darkness of ignorance

Send blessings upon the guide who has shown us

The noble path of true religion

Send blessings upon this Prophet, for he

Has always been merciful to the believers

Send blessings upon the pure and noble Muhammad

There is none like him among the messengers

He is the one who has earned virtues, and they are

Perfectly aligned within his character

Who has been braver than Usama in battle

And at generosity, his spirit shines brightly

With a radiant face adorned by modesty

In the midst of generosity, which elevates his honor

Every wise mind has acknowledged his excellence

In revelations confirmed by a wise scripture

And the signs of his truth have been distinct

As the dawn parts from its darkness

The sun has paused for him upon seeing

The noble countenance of the Prophet

How many verses have declared the truth about Ahmad

Even the inanimate responded to him with speech

The bark of the tree wept with longing

Becoming a loyal devotee of separation

The virtues of the Seal of the Messengers

Glow with light, guiding the lost

It elevated him to ranks beyond the heavens

In dreams of truth where he resides

For him is the banner of praise unchallenged

And for him is intercession when he speaks

We hope for him on the Day of Judgment

For his great position will be magnified

Our only means is the love for him

And a greeting that spreads elegance and fragrance

And the best gift that one can offer to their prophet

Is prayers and peace abundantly

O you who seek intercession from him

Send blessings upon him and greet him with peace

Verses in Praise of the Arabic Language

Hamad bin Khalifa extols the beauty of the Arabic language:

The language of the Quran, O Sun of guidance

Protected by the Almighty from the schemes of enemies

Is there a language on this earth

That has echoed through the ages like yours?

In a world that knows nothing about you

It embraced you and became knowledgeable

With you, it has derived wisdom and eloquence

And on your foundation established its knowledge

You taught that the intellect is not lost

But rather, it is the mind that should be advanced

You distinguished between the name and the verb

And never left the letter ungoverned

From you, emerged eloquence and clarity

As the fitting expression, shining with brilliance

Within you lies the priceless gem

That is celebrated in every melody

Your clear articulation left the sun in awe

Collecting words from your myriad expressions

We taught the world guidance through you

And chose articulation that stands alone

We cultivated immortal glory through you

That challenges the heights of existence

Your echoes resonate across the vast skies

And through you, history rejoiced and sang

God did not choose you by chance

Nor did He select you for trivial reasons

You are from Adnan, a light and guidance

You are from Qatwan, generous in offering

A language through which God revealed

Clear signs and guidance

If it wasn’t for you, tunes of the night

Would not exist to illuminate the dark

Hooves of horses and the thunder of sounds

Are enriched by you, bringing harmony

Once, I feared the snares of enemies

But now, I fear ignorance’s traps

To those in authority, is there a listener

When I call for this witness?

This pure Arabic in which we extol

And revive with its melodic beauty

It is the spirit of the Arabs, and whoever preserves it

Is preserving the spirit and the body

If you desire a pure language

That rejuvenates the past and the future

Then choose those who embody its essence

Who, when speaking, enchant us

And bring forth words from the purest of sources

As brilliant as pearls adorning a crown

O vessel of religion and life, behold

The Quran preserves you in its recitation

With an Arabic tongue, as sweet

As the fresh Euphrates or the pure Barada

Whenever the devil of passion leads you astray

The Sultan of guidance saves you from loss

Verses in Praise of Women

Al-Farazdaq sings the praises of women:

I love women, diverse in their graces

Soft-spoken and with gentle glances

Preventers of the forbidden without vulgarity

Bestowing what is lawful upon themselves

I discovered that love cannot be healed

Except through encounters that dissolve sorrow

I tell a young lady with delicate hands

Whose rides tire her through challenging paths

If you were to know, I’d say gather fortitude

And do not complain to me of exhaustion

For you have accomplished much, so do not become

Like a millstone once filled with grain

For your efforts are valuable in my sight

Your task was to craft the powerful

And the horse’s reins are meant to touch

Across open plains, without a stone

Nor thorn to slow its flight

When you face obstacles, remember

The Merciful steers the lost from stray

With a grace that surpasses pure excess

Witness my gaze; I simply look for you

Carefully noticing your joyful form

When the Lord established the mountains

And said, “Be firm!” and they responded

Verses in Praise of Teachers

Aḥmad Shawqi acknowledges the role of teachers:

Arise, for the teacher deserves reverence

The teacher is almost a messenger

Did you not know of anyone more honorable

Than the one who nurtures souls and minds?

Glory be to You, O Allah, the best of teachers

You taught with the pen through the ages

You brought forth intellect from its darkness

Your guidance revealed the clear light

You shaped it with the hand of the teacher, at times

As rusted iron and at others finely polished

You sent Moses with the Torah as a guide

And taught the Gospel to the son of the pure

And you gave life to the fountain of eloquence, Muhammad

Thus he quenched the thirst of knowledge and transmission

Poem in Praise of the Ahlul Bayt

Imam Al-Shafi’i recites lines in admiration of the Ahlul Bayt:

They said I have renounced, I said no

Rejection isn’t my faith nor my belief

But I embrace without doubt

The best leader and guide

If loving the Guardian is indeed refusal

Then I reject the worshippers

And when I saw people led astray

By their misguided ideologies in the seas of ignorance

I boarded in the name of God on the ships of salvation

And they are the family of the Prophet, the Seal of the Messengers
