Prayers for Mothers on Mother’s Day

Prayers for Ill Mothers on Mother’s Day

As Muslims, we are encouraged to pray for our loved ones in any way we wish. On Mother’s Day, it is especially meaningful to offer prayers for an ill mother. Below are some suggested prayers:

  • (O Allah, remove this affliction, Lord of mankind, and heal her; You are the Healer. There is no healing except Your healing, a healing that leaves no sickness.)
  • (In the name of Allah, with whose name nothing can harm in the heavens or the earth, and He is the All-Hearing, All-Knowing, recited three times.)
  • Recite Surah Al-Fatiha over the sick individual. Allah (SWT) says: (In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds. The Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Master of the Day of Judgment. You alone we worship, and You alone we ask for help. Guide us on the Straight Path, the path of those upon whom You have bestowed favor, not of those who have evoked [Your] anger or of those who are astray.)
  • Recite the two protective Surahs (Al-Falaq and An-Naas) over the patient. Surah Al-Falaq: (Say, “I seek refuge in the Lord of daybreak from the evil of that which He created and from the evil of the blowers in knots and from the evil of an envier when he envies.”). Surah An-Naas: (Say, “I seek refuge in the Lord of mankind, the King of mankind, the God of mankind, from the evil of the retreating whisperer – who whispers [evil] into the breasts of mankind, of jinn and among mankind.”)
  • O Allah, heal my mother; You are the Healer, and there is no healing except Your healing, a healing that leaves no sickness.
  • O Allah, grant my mother a healing that leaves no sickness ever again.
  • O Allah, support my mother and grant her healing and strength.

Prayers for Deceased Mothers

A Muslim can offer any prayer for the deceased. Below are some suggested prayers for a deceased mother:

  • (O Allah, forgive her, have mercy upon her, excuse her, and show her honor in her resting place. Expand her entrance, cleanse her with water, snow, and hail, and purify her from sins as a white garment is cleansed of stains. Exchange her dwelling for a better one and her family for a better family. Protect her from the trials of the grave and the torment of the Fire.)
  • (O Allah, forgive the living and the deceased among us, the young and the old, the male and the female, those present and those absent. O Allah, whoever among us You grant life to, let him live in Islam, and whoever among us You take in death, let him die in faith. O Allah, do not deprive us of his reward and do not lead us astray after him.)
  • (Seek forgiveness for your brother and ask for firmness for him; he is now being questioned.)
  • O Lord, forgive her with a forgiveness from You that allows her spirit to rest and finds her comfort in her grave.
  • O Allah, grant my mother and the deceased Muslims the joy of gazing upon Your Face and longing to meet You.
