The first thing I heard from him was: “O people! Feed others, spread peace, maintain family ties, and pray at night when others are asleep, and you will enter Paradise in peace.”
Religious Hadith on Charity
The Sunnah highlights various aspects of the virtues of charity. Among these sayings are:
- The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: “Whoever gives in charity the equivalent of a date from lawful earnings, and Allah only accepts what is lawful; He will accept it with His right hand, and then He will nurture it for its owner, just as one of you raises his young horse until it becomes as huge as a mountain.”
- He also stated: “The world is for four types of people: A servant to whom Allah has given wealth and knowledge, and he fears Allah in it, maintains family ties, and knows the rights that Allah has upon him; this person is in the best position.”
- The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: “Charity extinguishes sin as water extinguishes fire.”
- In a discussion about the seven individuals whom Allah will shade on the Day of Judgment, he mentioned: “A man who gives charity anonymously, such that his left hand does not know what his right hand spends.”
- He said: “Cure your ill ones with charity.”
- He encouraged: “If you wish your heart to be softened, feed the poor and caress the head of the orphan.”
- He mentioned: “There is no day that the servants rise in, except that two angels descend, one of them says: ‘O Allah, grant the one who spends a replacement,’ and the other says: ‘O Allah, grant the one who withholds destruction.’
- He reported: “Allah said: ‘Spend, O son of Adam, and I shall spend on you.’
- He stated: “Charity does not decrease wealth.”
- He concluded: “A man will remain under the shade of his charity until the people are judged.”
Religious Hadith on Patience
Several Hadiths in the Sunnah address the topic of patience and its virtues. Below are a few key sayings:
- The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) stated: “No affliction befalls a believer, even a thorn that pricks him, except that it is expiation for his sins.”
- He noted: “Whoever Allah wishes to do good to, He afflicts him with trials.”
- Abu Sa’id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) shared that some Ansar asked the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) for help, and he provided for them repeatedly until his resources were exhausted. He then said: “What I possess of goodness, I will not withhold from you. Whosoever seeks contentment will find it in Allah, and whoever perseveres, Allah will grant him patience. No one has been given a gift better or more expansive than patience.”
- The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) remarked: “The most severely tested people are the prophets, then those closest to them, and then those closest to them.”
- A man asked the Messenger (peace be upon him): “O Messenger of Allah, if I am killed in the way of Allah, will my sins be forgiven?” The Prophet replied: “Yes, if you are killed in the way of Allah while being patient, steadfast, and moving forward, not retreating.” Then the Prophet asked him again, “What did you say?” The man repeated his question, and the Prophet affirmed: “Yes, while being patient and steadfast, except for debts, for Gabriel (peace be upon him) informed me of that.”
