Apoody’s Eid Poem by the Poet Elia Abu Madi
Oh poet, here comes the beauty of Eid,
So let the inspiration flow and echo through the hymns.
This is the bliss you sought so dearly,
Do not let anything else divert your heart.
The delights of summer exist in valleys and hills,
And the pleasure of the season lingers even in the mountains.
What you see is only radiant faces,
And all you hear is the chirping of songbirds.
Go, tell the people how Lebanon survived,
From the tyrants, both fierce and unyielding.
And how Damascus blossomed again after its tribulations,
Retrieving all that was lost and taken from it.
Today, no foreign power can oppress us,
Or take us lightly, for we are bold.
Rejoice, oh Cedars, and let your offspring celebrate,
Now the squadron is safe from the master of the land.
What once was restrained will be freed,
Graceful after enduring torment and suffering.
So freely roam the vast skies,
To the hills, valleys, and the flowing streams.
To the meadows to pray in their fields,
And to the vineyards to sing for the clusters of grapes.
To me, with the happiest spirit, I descend upon
My proud nation, children of the courageous.
The skies of Lebanon shine brightly with their features,
Its dawn reflects in the smiles of the lovely maidens.
Should you inhabit the mountains, they became our sanctuary,
But if you descend to the desert, we love only the desert.
(Hugh) and before it had been (Mawashah), I complained to him about the turmoil of events.
O Eid, Be Happy! Poem by the Poet Khamees
Apologies! If you knocked on my door, dear Eid,
Return, after a long absence.
You were astonished by my behavior,
And you wondered:
What has happened to me? What is my issue?
Why do I seem so sad and gloomy,
Not rejoicing in your return?
I did not welcome you as you wished,
With music, drums, and melodies.
I did not smile or plan a celebration,
Nor a feast with my dear friends.
Each time my phone rang,
I told the caller, “Happy Eid,” briefly.
There was no decoration on my door,
No perfumes wafting from my threshold.
There’s no abundance, dear Eid; there isn’t a feast,
And my meals haven’t changed at all,
My coffee is the same as every morning,
And evening,
And the water in my cups as well.
I bought nothing new from the market,
Wearing my old clothes.
It felt as if I hadn’t counted this day,
As a day of celebration, as I calculated my time.
So blame me or scold me, for I am
Ready to face your reproach.
If you find me indifferent,
And see coldness coursing through my veins,
Do not ask me,
Why I am unfeeling or why I am
Unhappy and melancholic.
Be assured that I have a thousand excuses,
And be assured that I have my reasons.
And as I am aware, in full awareness,
You brought me to lose my emotions.
So try,
O Eid, to understand me and see,
Once in your existence, my comprehension.
Which path did you take, dear Eid,
Did you perhaps visit my loved ones?
In Palestine, did you descend into the valleys,
Or did you climb the hills?
Did you see the tents swept away by the wind,
In their comings and goings?
Did you witness the homes being demolished? Tell me:
Did you expect the extent of such devastation?
Did you see the tears in people’s eyes,
And feel the pain they endure?
Did you see the children, spending your days,
O Eid, without toys?
Or swings, or amusement, and when you came,
They greeted you with astonishment?
Did you hear Al-Aqsa calling: “Come,
Save me
From these dogs of Israel?
Did you see the answers? And blood,
Surrounding its walls as the youth rise?
We are, among the nations, the miracle of the era; we have become
The envy of admiration.
In the heights we thrive, if we desire,
A homeland,
To live upon the earth.
What Eid is it? Still in refuge,
In displacement, in estrangement, and alienation?
What Eid is it? Without my family and friends,
My mountains, and my seas, and my hills?
Without the withdrawal of the occupier from all my land?
What Eid is this without liberation?
O Eid, be happy, and return to me,
Then, I will greet you joyfully.
