It encompasses all forms of worship—spiritual, doctrinal, physical, and verbal.

One of its notable effects is the sense of dignity and elevation it instills in the Muslim when the individual lowers their forehead and face to the ground in humility before their Creator. This act frees them from worldly bonds and expresses complete surrender to Allah – the Exalted – as they repeatedly affirm: (Glory be to my Lord, the Most High).

The Prophet Muhammad – peace be upon him – illustrated this in a narration where he asked: “Do you not see if there were a river at the door of one of you, in which he bathes five times a day, would any dirt remain on him?” The companions replied, “No dirt would remain on him.” The Prophet then stated: “This is an example of the five prayers; Allah removes sins through them.”

- Prayer is often mentioned alongside various other religious duties in multiple passages of the Qur’an, such as: (So pray to your Lord and sacrifice [to Him alone]).
- Allah – the Exalted – highlighted the importance of patience in relation to prayer and commanded it in the verse: (And instruct your family to pray and be steadfast in it. We do not ask you for provision; We provide for you).
- Prayer is never exempted for the believer under any circumstance; it is obligatory at all times.
- On the Day of Judgment, prayer will be the first matter for which the servant will be questioned; if it is sound, all other deeds will be sound. This is underscored by the hadith of the Prophet – peace be upon him: “The first thing for which a servant will be held accountable on the Day of Resurrection will be his prayer. If it is valid, he will be successful; if it is corrupted, he will be at a loss.”
