Reasons for Blessings

Causes of Blessings

Various religious texts from the Holy Quran and the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) highlight several factors that can lead to the attainment of blessings. Below are some of these key factors:

  • Placing trust in Allah and being mindful of His commands.
  • Avoiding persistence in sins and seeking forgiveness earnestly.
  • Communicating with Allah through prayers for blessings.
  • Engaging in permissible means for earning a livelihood while steering clear of forbidden or questionable income sources.
  • Treating others kindly, fulfilling their rights, and making an effort to maintain good relationships.
  • Taking initiative to make the most of time and managing it effectively.
  • Exhibiting generosity and hospitality.
  • Striving in the path of Allah Almighty.

Forms of Seeking Blessings

Requesting blessings can take one of two forms: it can be through recognized religious actions, such as the Holy Quran, which is abundant in blessings — including guidance for hearts, healing for souls, personal transformation, and moral refinement. Alternatively, it may involve illegitimate practices such as seeking blessings from specific trees, stones, graves, or sacred locations, which constitute a form of polytheism. It is essential to remember that Allah Almighty is the Creator of all blessings and the one who bestows them upon creation.

Factors Leading to the Loss of Blessings

The loss of blessings can be attributed to several factors. Among these are dishonesty and concealment in business dealings, as the divine guidance associates blessings with honesty and transparency, and their absence breeds loss. Moreover, excessive swearing in transactions, even when truthful, can negate blessings; the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) discouraged frequent oaths in trade. Additionally, engaging in usury is also a significant factor in the loss of blessings. It is considered one of the major sins, as highlighted in Allah’s statement: “Allah diminishes interest and increases charity; and Allah does not like every sinful disbeliever.” Ultimately, it is understood by believers that the foundation of blessings lies in faith in Allah, while the basis of their loss revolves around defiance and disregard for His directives.
