Supplications During Tawaf Around the Kaaba
Numerous supplications and remembrances have been narrated from the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). Among these, some are confirmed to be authentic. It is also valid to make supplications and remembrances that originate from one’s heart and mind, allowing individuals to pray for what they desire and remember Allah in any way they choose, as long as the phrases are established from the Prophet (peace be upon him). Here are some of the recognized supplications and remembrances attributed to him:
- It is recommended for the pilgrim to commence the Tawaf with Takbir. It has been reported in the narration by Abdullah ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) that “the Prophet (peace be upon him) made Tawaf around the Kaaba while riding a camel, and whenever he passed by a corner, he signaled to it with something in his hand and declared Takbir.” Some scholars advise that when the pilgrim reaches the Black Stone (Hajr Aswad) to say: “In the name of Allah, Allah is the Greatest. O Allah, I believe in You, affirm Your Book, fulfill Your covenant, and follow the Sunnah of Your Prophet (peace be upon him).” It is permissible to repeat this supplication each time they align with the Black Stone.
- The pilgrim may invoke: “O Allah, forgive and have mercy, pardon what You know, You are the Most Mighty, the Most Generous. O Allah, our Lord, grant us good in this world and good in the Hereafter, and protect us from the punishment of the Fire.” Al-Shafi’i (may Allah have mercy on him) stated that the best supplication to be said during Tawaf is: “O Allah, grant us good in this world and good in the Hereafter, and protect us from the punishment of the Fire.”
- While undertaking Tawaf, it is recommended for the pilgrim, specifically between the Yemeni corner and the Black Stone, to pray: “Our Lord, grant us good in this world and good in the Hereafter, and protect us from the punishment of the Fire.”
Beautiful Supplications for Tawaf
There are many beautiful supplications recommended for Muslims during Tawaf, including:
- “O Allah, all praise is for You, a praise that is worthy of Your blessings and rewards Your bounties. I praise You with all Your praises that I know and that I do not know, for all of Your blessings, known and unknown, and irrespective of any condition. O Allah, send prayers and peace upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad. O Allah, protect me from the accursed devil, safeguard me from all evils, and content me with what You have provided. O Allah, make me of the most honored of Your guests, and guide me to the path of righteousness until I meet You, O Lord of the worlds.” Following this, one may pray for whatever they desire.
- “O Lord, I have come to You from a distant place, hoping for Your favor. So grant me a blessing from Your bounty that will make me self-sufficient without the need for anyone other than You, O Generous One.”
- “O Allah, remove the weight of our sins, forgive us, and open the doors of Your grace and mercy towards us. Have mercy upon us and elevate us from the state of humiliation to one of honor.”
- “O Allah, be pleased with us and with our parents, granting them a satisfaction that evokes Your greatest grace, kindness, and generosity. O Allah, treat us according to what You are worthy of, not according to what we deserve. Grant us more than our hopes and elevate our aspirations to high standards, placing us in the highest ranks.”
- “O Allah, raise our mention among those whose mention You elevated, and our status among those whose status You elevated. Expand our hearts as You expanded Your Prophet’s heart, through which we may find tranquility in Your worship.”
- “O Allah, do not deny us the best of what You possess because of the worst of what we have. Heal our hearts from afflictions, our tongues from falsehood, and our souls from envy. Make us steadfast in upholding the truth.”
Supplications for Sa’i Between Safa and Marwah
A Muslim is permitted to pray as they wish during the Sa’i, which includes:
- During Sa’i, it is recommended for the pilgrim, specifically at the mountains of Safa and Marwah, to recite the words of Allah: “Indeed, Safa and Marwah are among the symbols of Allah. So whoever performs Hajj to the House or performs Umrah, there is no blame upon him for walking between them. And whoever volunteers goodness – then indeed, Allah is Appreciative and Knowing.” Then one should emulate the actions of the Prophet (peace be upon him) during his Sa’i. It is recorded that he recited this verse and then stated: “… I will start where Allah began, and he began at Safa. He ascended it until he could see the Kaaba, then faced the Qibla, affirmed the Oneness of Allah, declared Takbir, and said: ‘There is no deity but Allah, alone without partner; His is the dominion and the praise, and He is over all things competent; there is no deity but Allah, alone. He fulfilled His promise, aided His servant, and defeated the confederates alone.’ He repeated this three times, then descended to Marwah. When his feet were firmly in the valley, he ran, and when he ascended, he walked, until he reached Marwah and did as he did at Safa…”
- A pilgrim is free to invoke any good prayers and supplications in Sa’i, alongside those mentioned. If a pilgrim chooses not to recite those specific prayers, they may still pray for whatever they desire, as long as it is good for them in this life and the Hereafter. However, it is preferable to engage with the established remembrances from the Prophet (peace be upon him). Should a pilgrim wish to engage in remembrance instead of supplication, they may also recite the Qur’an, which is the greatest form of remembrance and yields immense rewards.

O Allah, instill love for You, Your Angels, Your Prophets, and Your Messengers within us. O Allah, make ease for us in that which is easy, and distance us from that which is difficult. Forgive us in this world and in the Hereafter, and make us leaders amongst the pious.”

Upon You, we place our trust and reliance, and to Your good pleasure is our ultimate return.”
