Verses of Honor in the Holy Quran

The Supreme Honor Belongs to Allah

The Holy Quran contains several verses that affirm the absolute honor of Allah – Glorified and Exalted. Below are some selected verses that illustrate this concept:

  • In Surah An-Nisa: (Indeed, those who take disbelievers as allies instead of the believers. Do they seek honor through them? But honor belongs to Allah entirely.)
  • (They say, ‘If we return to the city, the more honorable will surely expel the more insignificant.’ But honor belongs to Allah, His Messenger, and the believers; however, the hypocrites do not know.)
  • (Whoever desires honor, then to Allah belongs all honor. To Him ascends good speech, and righteous deeds raise it. But those who plot evil deeds will have a severe punishment; and their plotting is destined to fail.)
  • (And let not their speech grieve you. Indeed, honor belongs to Allah entirely; He is the Hearing, the Knowing.)
  • (Indeed, this is the true narrative; and there is no deity except Allah; and indeed, Allah is the Exalted in Might, the Wise.)
  • (And Allah only made it a glad tidings for you and to reassure your hearts. And victory comes only from Allah, the Exalted in Might, the Wise.)
  • (Indeed, those who disbelieve in Our signs, We will drive them into a Fire; every time their skins are roasted through, We will replace them with other skins so they may taste the punishment. Indeed, Allah is Exalted in Might and Wise.)
  • (So that there will be for the people no plea against Allah after the messengers. And Allah is Exalted in Might, Wise.)
  • (And as for the thief, the male and the female, amputate their hands as recompense for what they earned as a deterrent from Allah; and Allah is Exalted in Might, Wise.)
  • In Surah As-Saffat: (Glory be to your Lord, the Lord of Honor, above what they describe.)
  • (And those of you who die and leave behind spouses — a will for their wives has been commanded: A year’s maintenance without being driven out. If they leave, there is no blame upon you for that which they do in themselves, provided it is acceptable. And Allah is Exalted in Might, Wise.)
  • (And divorced women must wait for three menstruation periods. And it is not lawful for them to conceal what Allah has created in their wombs if they believe in Allah and the Last Day. And their husbands have the most right to take them back in that time if they intend reconciliation. And wives have rights similar to those of their husbands, according to what is acceptable, and men have a degree over them. And Allah is Exalted in Might, Wise.)
  • (Rather, Allah raised him up to Himself, and Allah is Exalted in Might, Wise.)

Diverse Verses on Honor

The term ‘honor’ and its derivatives appear in various contexts throughout the Holy Quran. Below are some of these instances:

  • In Surah Al-Baqarah: (And when it was said to him, ‘Fear Allah,’ pride in sin seized him. So sufficient for him is Hell, and wretched is the resting place.)
  • (Say, ‘O Allah, Owner of Sovereignty, You give sovereignty to whom You will and take sovereignty away from whom You will. You honor whom You will and humble whom You will. In Your hand is all good. Indeed, You are over all things competent.)
  • (O you who have believed, whoever of you renounces his religion — Allah will bring forth a people He will love and who will love Him, [they are] humble toward the believers, mighty against the disbelievers, they strive in the cause of Allah and do not fear the blame of a critic. That is the favor of Allah; He bestows it upon whom He wills. And Allah is All-Encompassing, All-Knowing.)
  • (So they threw down their ropes and staffs, and said, ‘By the might of Pharaoh, we will surely be victorious.’)
  • (But those who disbelieved are in a state of exaltation and division.)
  • (He said, ‘By Your might, I will surely mislead them all.’)
