The Importance of Quranic Verses in Morning and Evening Remembrances
It is well-established from the teachings of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) that the following verses and surahs should be recited every morning and evening:
Ayat Al-Kursi: (Allah! There is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of existence. Neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor sleep. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Who is it that can intercede with Him except by His permission? He knows what is before them and what will be after them, and they encompass not a thing of His knowledge except for what He wills. His Kursi extends over the heavens and the earth, and their preservation tires Him not. And He is the Most High, the Most Great.) [Al-Baqarah: 255]
Surah Al-Ikhlas: (Say, “He is Allah, [who is] One, Allah, the Eternal Refuge. He neither begets nor is born, nor is there to Him any equivalent.”) [Al-Ikhlas: 1-4] Recite three times.
Surah Al-Falaq: (Say, “I seek refuge in the Lord of daybreak from the evil of that which He created and from the evil of darkness when it settles and from the evil of the blowers in knots and from the evil of an envier when he envies.”) [Al-Falaq: 1-5] Recite three times.
Surah An-Nas: (Say, “I seek refuge in the Lord of mankind, the Sovereign of mankind, the God of mankind, from the evil of the retreating whisperer – who whispers in the breasts of mankind, of jinn and of men.”) Recite three times.

There are specific phrases of remembrance that are recited exclusively in the morning, with the primary distinction from evening remembrances being the mention of morning versus evening. Here are these remembrances:
- We have entered the morning, and sovereignty belongs to Allah, all praise is due to Allah; there is no deity but Allah, alone without partner; His is the dominion and praise, and He is capable of all things. O Lord, I ask You for the good of this day and the goodness that follows it, and I seek refuge in You from the evil of this night and the evil that follows it. O Lord, I seek refuge in You from laziness and bad old age. O Lord, I seek refuge in You from the torment of the Fire and the torment of the grave. In the evening, it is said: We have entered the evening, and sovereignty belongs to Allah.
- O Allah, with You we have entered the morning, and with You, we have entered the evening, and with You, we live and die, and to You is the resurrection. In the evening, it is said: O Allah, with You we have entered the evening, and with You, we have entered the morning.
- O Allah, I testify to You and to You I testify – along with the bearers of Your Throne, Your angels, and all of Your creation – that You are Allah; there is no deity except You alone without partner, and that Muhammad is Your servant and messenger. Recite this four times. In the evening, it is said: O Allah, I testify to You this evening.

Frequently Asked Questions about Morning and Evening Remembrances
What is the significance of morning and evening remembrances?
Each remembrance has its unique merits, but the regular practice of these remembrances in general holds immense value, including opening the door to goodness and blessings, protection from the evils of this life and the Hereafter, as well as protection from the whispers of devils. Furthermore, it leads to significant rewards, peace of mind, and tranquility for the heart, along with countless other benefits.
Is it sufficient to recite only a portion of the morning and evening remembrances?
Morning and evening remembrances are a Sunnah from our Prophet (peace be upon him). If, dear Muslim, you are unable to recite them all, do not deprive yourself of the blessings of reciting even a part of them and making a habit of doing so. It was narrated from our beloved Prophet that “strive to be consistent, and know that none of you will be admitted to Paradise by their deeds alone, but rather the actions beloved to Allah are those which are consistent even if they are few.”
What are the appropriate times for morning and evening remembrances?
The timing for these remembrances is flexible. The time for morning remembrances stretches from after the Fajr prayer until just before Dhuhr, although it is best performed before sunrise. As for evening remembrances, their time extends from after the Asr prayer until sunset, with the best practice being to recite them immediately after Asr. And Allah knows best.
