Prayers for Mothers

Prayer for Mothers

The teachings of our Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) have significantly elevated the status of mothers in Islam, emphasizing the immense rewards associated with honoring them. The Holy Quran explicitly states that the rights of mothers are greater than those of fathers due to the hardships they endure during pregnancy, childbirth, breastfeeding, and nurturing. Honoring one’s mother entails showing kindness, obeying her (without sin), seeking her approval in all matters, and treating her with respect and reverence.

  • O Allah, with Your majesty and grace, You who are the Ever-Living, the Sustainer, I call upon You by Your Greatest Name, which, when invoked, You answer, to bestow Your blessings, mercy, and sustenance upon my mother.
  • O Lord, do not let me witness my mother in a state of weakness that brings me to tears. Allow me to be among those who honor her.
  • O God, remove any sorrow or worry from my mother’s heart, even if it weighs only the smallest grain. Grant her better than what she wishes for, and bring joy to her heart so that my heart may also be at ease, O Generous One, O Allah.
  • “O Allah, accept her repentance and respond to her supplications. We seek refuge with You from returning her to an age of decline. May You close her life with good deeds.”
  • O Allah, let my mother not suffer from any worries or pains. Grant her a happiness that is everlasting.
  • O Lord, remove from my mother the troubles of this world and do not let her taste the bitterness of pain or the tears of sadness. By the vastness of Your seventh heaven, bring comfort to her heart, bring her joy, and protect her for me.
  • O Allah, shield her from every fright until she reaches Paradise, and bestow upon her Your veil of protection. Do not expose her to anyone’s ridicule or make her an object of scorn. Strengthen her intellect, faith, and belief.
  • O Allah, grant my mother an extended life, superior health, and do not deprive me of her presence and approval. Let her happiness accompany her like her shadow.
  • O Allah, prolong her life with health and well-being, and let her final words in this world be: “There is no deity but Allah, and Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah.” Elevate her to the ranks of martyrs and the righteous in her grave.
  • O Allah, make my mother among those who remember You, who are grateful to You, obedient to You, and who turn back to You in repentance.
  • O Allah, please fulfill what she desires for us in this life. Make her moments filled with Your remembrance, and grant her happiness whether alive or deceased. Do not deny her from receiving this supplication, O Lord of the Worlds.
  • O Allah, You who bestow generously, extend Your abundant grace and infinite generosity upon my mother so that her heart may find ease in worshiping and obeying You, in drawing closer to You, and in remaining continually engaged in Your remembrance.
  • O Lord, keep my mother away from worldly troubles, and protect her from experiencing pain or sadness. By the vastness of Your seventh heaven, bring peace to her heart, let joy be hers, and safeguard her for me.
  • O Lord, let there be no sin for my mother that You do not forgive, no worry that You do not alleviate, and no worldly need she seeks fulfillment for, except that You grant it. Do not let her depend on anyone other than You, O Allah, and open her eyes to what she wishes for us in this world.
  • O Allah, grant her a life of stability, plentiful sustenance, and noble deeds. Grant her entry to Paradise and whatever draws her closer to it, while distancing her from Hellfire and anything leading her to it.
  • O Allah, with Your majesty and grace, You who are the Ever-Living, the Sustainer, I invoke You by Your Greatest Name, which, when called upon, You respond, to extend Your blessings, mercy, and sustenance upon my mother.
  • O Allah, help us honor her until she is fully pleased with us. Aid us in treating her kindly in her old age. And do not take her life unless she is entirely pleased with us. Help us serve her in the way that is rightfully due upon us, and make us dutiful and obedient to her.

Prayers for the Sick Mother

  • O Allah, grant my mother complete health which will never be followed by sickness again. Hold her hand, guard her with Your vigilant eyes that never sleep, protect her with Your strength, and preserve her with Your might. Watch over her day and night, and have mercy upon her through Your power; for You are her trust and hope.
  • “Remove the affliction, O Lord of mankind, and heal her for You are the Healer. There is no healing except Your healing, a healing that leaves no ailment.”
  • O Allah, cure my mother from her illness, reveal to her the remedy, and grant her body patience amidst afflictions. Indeed, You are most aware of her condition, so heal her and grant her lengthy life, O Lord of the Worlds.
  • O Solver of troubles, Reliever of distress, and Respondent to the supplications of the needy, dress her in the garment of health and well-being without delay.
  • O Most Merciful of the merciful, heal her, O Allah, heal her, O Allah, heal her.
  • O Allah, let Your health flow through my mother’s body, O Lord of the Worlds, O Answerer of the cries of the supplicants.
  • O Allah, I seek refuge for my mother in the complete Words of God from every sadness that marks her face and every pain that resides within her.

Prayers for the Deceased Mother

Praying for a deceased mother is amongst the most virtuous deeds one can perform, as it is narrated by the Prophet (peace be upon him) that: “The best that a man can leave behind are three things,” among which is “a righteous child who prays for her.” The supplication of a child for their deceased parent returns benefits to both, as they were instrumental in bringing their child into existence and raising them well. Among the prayers for a deceased mother are:

  • O Allah, treat her according to Your generosity, not according to her deeds.
  • O Allah, substitute her dwelling with one better than hers, and grant her companions better than her companions. Admit her into Paradise and protect her from the torment of the grave and the Fire.
  • O Allah, console her in her solitude, in her loneliness, and in her estrangement.
  • O Allah, grant her a blessed abode; You are indeed the Best of providers.
  • O Allah, we beseech You and turn to You, asking You to shower her with mercy and not to punish her. She has turned to You in need, and You are the best to turn to, and she is in dire need of Your mercy while You are in no need of punishing her.
  • O Allah, transfer her from the narrowness of the grave and the dwelling of worms to the gardens of forever.
  • O Allah, my mother is under Your protection and in Your care; safeguard her from the trial of the grave and the punishment of the Fire. You are the Most Faithful and Just, so forgive her and have mercy upon her; indeed, You are the Most Forgiving, Most Merciful.
  • O Allah, have mercy upon her on the earth, beneath the earth, and on the Day of Reckoning. Keep her safe from Your punishment on the day You resurrect Your servants.
  • O Allah, forgive her, have mercy upon her, grant her health, pardon her, honor her resting place, widen her entrance, cleanse her with water, snow, and hail, and purify her from sins as a white cloth is purified from dirt. Replace her dwelling with one better than hers, her companions better than her companions, and her spouse better than her spouse. Admit her into Paradise and protect her from the torment of the grave and the Fire, O Allah, and provide comfort to those who have no other option in this world. Make them among the honored and blessed.
  • O Allah, shelter her beneath the earth and protect her on the Day of Judgment. Do not disgrace her on the day they are resurrected—a day when neither wealth nor children will avail, except for one who comes to Allah with a sound heart.
