Dry Season

The dry season significantly increases the risk of forest fires and facilitates their rapid spread, primarily due to dry grasses and a reduced rate of rainfall.

This dry season typically begins earlier than usual, commencing in early January and lasting until late February, sometimes extending through the end of May or even into June. During this period, wind conditions can range from moderate to strong, coupled with light precipitation, which accelerates the burning and destruction of the forests.

Human Activities

Researchers stress the impact of human activities on the increasing incidence of wildfires. Activities such as agriculture, mining, and logging exacerbate the situation. Many individuals deliberately expand agricultural areas at the expense of the lush forests, resulting in a shift from a moist, rainy climate to a drier, moderate one, which makes wildfires more likely.

Numerous farmers resort to burning sections of the forest to create additional farmland. Furthermore, extensive mining operations to extract precious minerals also cause significant harm, leading to the widespread degradation and reduction of forested areas.

Intentional Fire Ignition

Some cattle ranchers are known to purposely set fires to expand grazing areas, an act that is illegal. Alternatives exist, such as utilizing other natural reserves for livestock grazing without resorting to such destructive actions, which contribute to the burning of countless trees and land.

These intentionally set fires can sometimes grow uncontrollably, spreading rapidly and making it exceedingly difficult to contain them, often lasting for weeks or even months. Such behavior leads to widespread destruction of the ecosystem and poses a serious threat to the environment as a whole.
