Hadiths on Speaking the Truth

Numerous hadiths specifically address the importance of speaking the truth. Below are some notable examples:

  • The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, stated: “Let not the fear of the people prevent any of you from speaking the truth when he sees it.”
  • He also remarked: “A group will emerge who speak the truth, but it does not go beyond their throats; they will depart from the truth as an arrow leaves a bow.”
  • The Prophet, peace be upon him, prayed: “O Allah, with Your knowledge of the unseen, and Your power over creation, grant me life as long as You know that life is better for me, and take my soul when You know that death is better for me. I ask You for fear of You in secret and in public, and to speak the truth in both anger and pleasure.”
  • Abu Dharr al-Ghifari, may Allah be pleased with him, reported: “My beloved (referring to the Prophet, peace be upon him) advised me with seven things, including: to speak the bitter truth and not to be deterred by the blame of the blamers.”
  • The Prophet, peace be upon him, was asked: “What is the best form of jihad?” He replied: “A word of truth in the face of a tyrannical ruler.”
  • An authentic narration mentions from the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him: “What a great gift is a word of truth that you hear and then carry it to a Muslim brother, so that you may teach it to him.”
  • A different narration indicates that the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said: “There is no act of charity more beloved to Allah than speaking the truth.”

The Divine Saying (The Truth)

In the Holy Quran, Allah Almighty states: “That is Jesus, son of Mary, a statement of truth about which they are in dispute.” This encompasses all that is related to Mary since she distanced herself from her people in a remote place, from the moment she conceived Jesus until she brought him forth. The child spoke in the cradle, and her people made their false accusations against her.

Thus, regarding Jesus, son of Mary, he is indeed a “statement of truth,” contrary to what the Jews, may Allah curse them, claim—that he was born of fornication, or what the Christians say—that he is God, or the son of God, or part of a trinity; all of this is falsehood and slander, without any evidence to substantiate it.

Expressions on Speaking the Truth

Here are some expressions regarding the significance of speaking the truth:

  • The truth can be unsettling for those accustomed to promoting falsehood until they come to believe it.
  • The truth prevails only when it confronts falsehood; indeed, reality does not fear discourse.
  • Those who defend the truth through force often resort to it only until they achieve their objectives; thereafter, strength becomes their sole guide.
