  • (Our Lord, forgive us and our brothers who preceded us in faith, and do not place in our hearts any resentment toward those who have believed. Our Lord, You are indeed Most Kind and Merciful).

Beautiful Supplications from the Sunnah

The Sunnah of the Prophet contains numerous beautiful supplications. Here are some notable examples:

  • (O Allah, indeed I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your female servant. My forelock is in Your hand, and Your decree upon me is executed with justice. I ask You by every name that belongs to You, which You have named Yourself or revealed in Your Book or taught to any of Your creation, or which You have kept to Yourself in the knowledge of the unseen with You, that You make the Quran the spring of my heart, the light of my sight, the removal of my sadness, and the escape from my anxiety. Whoever is relieved of his anxiety, Allah replaces it with joy).
  • (O Allah, we ask You for the causes of Your mercy, the firm resolutions of Your forgiveness, safety from every sin, the benefit of every virtue, the attainment of Paradise, and salvation from the Fire by Your help).
  • (O Allah, suffice me with what is lawful, so that I may avoid what is unlawful, and enrich me with Your bounty from anyone other than You).
  • (O Allah, I seek refuge in You from anxiety and sorrow, weakness and laziness, cowardice and stinginess, the burden of debt, and the domination of men).

Various Beautiful Supplications

Here are some diverse and beautiful supplications:

  • O my God, how can I call upon You after having sinned against You, and how can I refrain from calling upon You when I know You and recognize Your vast mercy, and Your love in my heart is profound.
  • O Lord, I extend to You a hand full of sins and an eye full of hope. You are the Master of gifts, and I am shackled by my wrongdoings.
  • O my God, how constricted is the path for those who do not have You as a guide, and how desolate the road for those who do not have You as a companion.
  • O my God, this is my joy in You while I am fearful; how then shall my joy in You be when I am secure?
  • Grant me what pleases You and forgive me for what does not harm You, and turn unto me; indeed You are the Most Forgiving.
  • O my God, my age has advanced, my bones are frail, time has taken its toll on me, my end is near, my days are running out, my desires have vanished, and I am left with my burdens; my body is deteriorated, my limbs are scattered, and I remain bound by my actions.
  • O my God, I have not allowed despair to extinguish my good expectations in You, so do not invalidate my genuine hopes among those who hope.
  • O my God, my sin is great since You are the one demanding accountability, and my wrongdoing is magnified since I confront You directly. Yet, when I think of the enormity of my sins and the vastness of Your forgiveness, I find the connection between them drawing me closer to Your mercy and Your pleasure.
  • O my God, if my sins alienate me from the blessings of Your kindness, Your certitude comforts me with the kindness of Your grace.
  • O my God, if heedlessness has made me neglectful of preparing to meet You, knowledge has awakened me, O my Master, to the generosity of Your favors.
  • O Allah, have mercy on me when my impact in this world has ceased and my memory is erased from creation, and I become among the forgotten like one who has been forgotten.
  • O my God, if my understanding is dim regarding what can rectify me, my certainty in Your gaze upon me guides me toward what benefits me.
  • O my God, even if my days have passed without what I desired of efforts, my past years have been spent in faith.
  • O my God, I have stood at Your door as a humble supplicant, and I have refrained from seeking anything else, for it is Your nature not to reject a distressed supplicant in need of something better than what is customary.
  • O my God, had You not guided me to Islam, I would never have found guidance; had You not granted me faith in You, I would never have believed; had You not allowed my tongue to call upon You, I would not have made the supplication; and had You not acquainted me with the sweetness of Your knowledge, I would not have recognized it.
  • O my God, if my lapse prevented me from being among the foremost righteous, reliance on You has elevated me to the ranks of the virtuous.
  • O my God, my sins have silenced me, and I have no argument.
  • O my God, I confess my sins, acknowledge my errors, bound by my misdeeds, drowned in my faults. So be gracious to me and overlook my shortcomings.
  • O my God, if my actions in obedience seem small beside You, my hope in Your mercy stands great beside it.
