Born in 1068 in the village of Kouhgun near the city of Abyourd in Persia, Abu al-Muzaffar al-Abyurdi hailed from a clan tracing its lineage back to Quraysh, specifically to Sakhr ibn Harb. Early in his career, he relocated to Baghdad to pursue education, where he worked for the Seljuk ambassador to the caliph, instructing his children. He also served under Ubaydullah ibn Nizam al-Mulk, a Seljuk minister known as Mu’id al-Dawla, and later assumed the role of librarian at the Nizamiyya school in Baghdad.

In his later years, he was appointed as the governor of Isfahan by Muhammad ibn Malekshah. Abu al-Muzaffar was not only a political figure but also a celebrated poet, writer, historian, genealogist, and expert in Quranic readings. His reputation grew significantly during his lifetime. He passed away on August 11, 1113, poisoned at the age of approximately 45.
