Hadiths about the Quran

  • “The one who is proficient in the Quran is with the noble and righteous scribes, and the one who reads the Quran and stumbles through it, despite the difficulty, has two rewards.”
  • Abu Sa’id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that a man came to him asking for advice. He said: “Adhere to the remembrance of Allah and the recitation of the Quran, for it is your spirit in the heavens and your remembrance on earth.”
  • “Beautify the Quran with your voices, for a good voice enhances the beauty of the Quran.”
  • Abu Musa al-Ash’ari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: “The one who recites the Quran is like the fragrant citrus fruit; its taste is sweet, and its aroma is delightful.”
  • “Whoever reads a letter from the Book of Allah will have a good deed for it, and a good deed is multiplied by ten. I do not say that ‘Alif, Lam, Meem’ is a letter; rather, ‘Alif’ is a letter, ‘Lam’ is a letter, and ‘Meem’ is a letter.”
  • “Indeed, Allah has certain people among the populace.” They asked, “O Messenger of Allah, who are they?” He replied, “They are the people of the Quran, the people of Allah and His chosen ones.”
  • “Recite the Quran, for it will come on the Day of Resurrection as an intercessor for its companions.”
  • “It will be said to the companion of the Quran: ‘Recite and ascend, and recite in the manner you used to recite in the worldly life; your place will be at the last verse you recite.’
  • “Learn the Book of Allah and acquire it – I believe he said – and recite it with melody; by the One in Whose hand is the soul of Muhammad, it is more slippery than a camel on the path.”
  • “The parable of the companion of the Quran is like that of tied camels; if he binds them, they remain with him, but if he releases them, they will disperse.”
  • Imran ibn al-Husayn (may Allah be pleased with him) said: “I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) say: ‘Whoever reads the Quran, let him ask Allah through it, for certain people will come who will read the Quran and ask others about it.’

  • The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “You will soon see people seeking knowledge; when you see them, welcome them warmly in accordance with the advice of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) and support them.”
  • Abdullah ibn Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: “There is no envy except in two cases: a person whom Allah has granted wealth and who spends it righteously, and a person whom Allah has given wisdom, and he teaches it.”
  • “When a human being dies, his deeds come to an end except for three: ongoing charity, beneficial knowledge, or a righteous child who prays for him.”
  • “The virtue of knowledge is dearer to me than the virtue of worship, and the best of your religion is piety.”
  • Jabir ibn Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: “Ask Allah for beneficial knowledge and seek refuge in Allah from knowledge that does not benefit.”
  • “May Allah brighten the face of a man who hears a saying from us, memorizes it, and conveys it to others, for perhaps a bearer of knowledge is not himself learned, and perhaps a bearer of knowledge may reach someone more knowledgeable than him.”
  • The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) stated: “Seeking knowledge is an obligation upon every Muslim.”
  • “Whoever comes to my mosque seeking nothing but good to learn or teach is like the one striving in the path of Allah, while anyone who comes for another purpose is like a man looking at another’s belongings.”

Hadiths about Work

  • Anas ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: “If the Hour were to be established and in one of your hands is a sapling, if he is able to plant it before the Hour rises, then let him plant it.”
  • Ukbah ibn Amir narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: “O Allah, bless my nation in its early hours.” He would send merchants at the start of the day, resulting in their wealth increasing.
  • Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: “Indeed, the Prophet David (peace be upon him) did not eat except from the work of his hands.”
  • The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) stated: “It is better for any of you to carry a bundle of firewood on his back than to ask a person who may give him or refuse him.”
  • “Indeed, Allah loves that when any of you does a task, he does it with excellence.”
  • Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: “Allah did not send a prophet except that he was a shepherd.” His companions asked: “And you, O Messenger of Allah?” He replied: “Yes, I used to shepherd for the Qurashis.”
  • Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) reported that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: “The best food you eat is from your earning, and your children are also from your earnings.”
