Prayers for Facilitating Marriage

Marriage in Islam

Marriage is ordained by Allah, and He encourages Muslims to engage in this sacred bond. As stated in the Holy Quran: “And among His signs is that He created for you from yourselves mates that you may find tranquility in them; and He placed between you affection and mercy. Indeed, in that are signs for a people who give thought” (Quran 30:21). The purpose of marriage in Islamic law encompasses various goals, including achieving emotional and spiritual comfort for both spouses, fulfilling natural desires in a permissible manner, and ensuring the continuation of the human race through procreation.

Prayers for Facilitating Marriage

While the texts of the Quran and Hadith do not specify particular prayers for expediting marriage, supplication (dua) in general is encouraged and loved in all matters. Below are several prayers that a Muslim can recite in hopes of facilitating their marriage:

  • O Allah, grant me a righteous spouse and simplify my journey towards marriage. Bestow upon me patience and soon relief; there is no deity but You, and there is no power or strength except through You.
  • O Allah, I ask You with my fear of falling into sin and with my preservation of my limbs. I beseech You, my Lord, through my good deeds, to bless me with a righteous partner who will assist me in my religious and worldly affairs, for You are capable of everything.
  • O Allah, Guide for the lost, and Hope for the seekers, Unveiler of sorrows, Reliever of distress. O Allah, marry us and provide us with lawful sustenance that protects us from the unlawful, O Generous One, Lord of the majestic throne. Have mercy on us with Your mercy, O Most Merciful of those who show mercy.
  • O Allah, I testify that You are the One, there is no deity but You, the Unique and Absolute, who does not beget nor is begotten, and there is none comparable to You. Fulfill my needs, ease my solitude, relieve my distress, and grant me a righteous companion, so we may glorify You abundantly and remember You frequently. Indeed, You are All-Seeing of my condition, O Answerer of the distress call when one remembers You, dissolve my knots, and bring peace to my heart.
  • O Allah, You who made the strong submissive to the weak, and commanded the jinn and the winds for our Prophet Solomon, and made the birds and iron submissive to our Prophet David, and controlled fire for our Prophet Abraham, make me a spouse who fears You, O Lord of the worlds, with Your might, strength, and glory, for You alone are capable of that.
  • O Allah, I seek refuge in You from delayed or slow marriage and ask for what is better than I deserve.
  • O Allah, I wish to marry; send me a man who is the most chaste, protect him for me in both my soul and wealth, expand his provision, and grant us a blessed child with good character in my life and upon my passing. Marry me to a righteous man who is pleasing to my eyes, O Lord of glory and honor.
  • O Allah, Owner of the Kingdom, You give dominion to whom You wills, and in Your hand is goodness; indeed, You have power over all things. Merciful in this world and the Hereafter, You grant to whom You wish and withhold from whom You wish. Bestow upon me a mercy that renders me independent of the mercy of others, and bless me with a marriage that brings contentment and peace to my soul.
  • O Allah, forgive my sins, protect my chastity, and purify my heart. Grant me a spouse who is better for me, and I am better for him, in our religion, our life, and the outcomes of our affairs, both in the immediate and the delayed.
  • O Allah, bless me with a righteous, pious, and loving spouse, who is devoted to You and Your Messenger, successful in life, so I may be the joy of his heart and he the joy of mine.
