Ahmed Mohammed Amer is an esteemed Egyptian Quran reader and a member of the Quranic Recitation Center of Al-Hussein Mosque in Cairo. He is regarded as one of the leading figures in the field of Quranic recitation in Egypt and the Islamic world.
Early Life of Ahmed Mohammed Amer and His Memorization of the Quran
Sheikh Ahmed Mohammed Amer was born on May 3, 1927, in the village of Al-Asakra, located in the Faqous Center of the Sharqia Governorate in Egypt. He was raised in an environment deeply rooted in the Quran, thanks to his father, Sheikh Mohammed Amer, a dedicated reader of the Quran. Recognizing his son’s potential, he enrolled him in the local Quranic school run by Sheikh Abdullah at a young age. By the age of eleven, Ahmed had completed his memorization of the Quran. He continued his studies in Quranic recitations under Sheikh Abdel Salam Al-Sharbasi, the grandfather of Sheikh Mohammed Khatir, former Mufti of Egypt, in the Dakahlia Governorate. By the age of thirteen, he mastered the rules of Tajweed and learned the seven Quranic readings. His beautiful voice and excellent recitation quickly gained him local fame, earning him the title of “Sheikh,” and his reputation spread throughout the Sharqia Governorate and nearby areas.
Ahmed Mohammed Amer on Quran Radio
In 1956, Sheikh Ahmed Mohammed Amer took the entrance exam for Quran readers at the Quran Radio before a committee of distinguished scholars led by Imam Al-Qurra Sheikh Abdel Fattah Al-Qadi, a prominent figure in the field and the head of the Quranic Mus’haf Verification Committee at Al-Azhar. He successfully passed the exam on his first attempt and joined the station. However, his voice did not resonate over the airwaves until 1963 due to challenges posed by the war and the Tripartite Aggression against Egypt.
Teaching and Recitation of the Quran by Ahmed Mohammed Amer
Sheikh Ahmed Amer devoted himself to teaching and memorizing the Quran to his students, particularly with the narration of Hafs ibn Asim and various Quranic readings. Following his father’s wishes, he never accepted payment for his Quranic teaching and recitation. From his Quranic school, over thirty students graduated, many of whom later joined Quran Radio and gained recognition as notable reciters.

Ahmed Mohammed Amer in the Quran Readers Syndicate
Sheikh Ahmed Mohammed Amer was elected as the Sheikh and Head of the Quran Readers Syndicate in the Sharqia Governorate. He also served as a member of the Board of Directors of the General Syndicate of Quran Readers in Egypt, under the presidency of the late Sheikh Abu Al-Enein Shuhashi.
International Travels of Ahmed Mohammed Amer
Sheikh Ahmed Mohammed Amer traveled to many Islamic countries and around the world, often acting as an ambassador and Quran reader or a participant in judging panels for international Quran competitions. In 1958, he traveled to Sudan as part of the first delegation from the Egyptian Ministry of Awqaf, alongside notable figures such as Sheikh Mohammed Al-Ghazali and Sheikh Mahmoud Abdel Hakim. His travels also took him to Palestine and France, along with multiple visits to Islamic centers during Ramadan. He visited Brazil, England, the USA, Malaysia, and made numerous trips to the Gulf countries and the Maghreb region.

Sheikh Ahmed Mohammed Amer passed away on February 20, 2016, at the age of 89.
