King Abdulaziz
King Abdulaziz, full name Abdulaziz bin Abdulrahman Al Saud, is recognized as the founder of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. He was born in 1876 in Riyadh and passed away in Taif in 1953, although he was buried in Riyadh. At the time of his death, he was 78 years old. King Abdulaziz received his education from prominent scholars in Riyadh, memorizing the Holy Quran at an early age. His father sought the guidance of several scholars, including Sheikh Muhammad bin Musaybi, to teach him the fundamentals of Islamic jurisprudence and the principles of monotheism alongside other subjects. He spent significant time learning from those with political wisdom and experience, while also engaging in horseback riding and traditional Arab sports. His early life spent with his father in the desert significantly contributed to his bravery, strong will, and ability to shoulder responsibilities from a young age.
In 1902, King Abdulaziz reclaimed Riyadh and unified the surrounding territories, additionally incorporating Al-Qassim into the modern Saudi state. His efforts laid the groundwork for the establishment of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. In 1913, he successfully regained complete control of Al-Ahsa, further expanding the modern kingdom. This incorporation of significant parts of the Arabian Peninsula provided the state with access to the Arabian Gulf coast, enhancing its political, economic, and commercial importance. Following numerous battles throughout the Arabian Peninsula, King Abdulaziz unified the nascent state under the title of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on September 22, 1932, corresponding to the 21st of Jumada Al-Awwal 1351 AH. This date is celebrated annually as Saudi National Day.
Upon the proclamation of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as a unified and independent state, King Abdulaziz embarked on a series of significant accomplishments. He established various ministries, delegated responsibilities across the nation, and forged multiple diplomatic relationships with countries that recognized the new kingdom after its membership in both the Arab League and the United Nations.
