Short Daily Prayers for Personal Protection

Supplications for Self-Protection from the Holy Quran

The Holy Quran contains numerous supplications that are utilized for safeguarding oneself. Below are some examples:

  • (Indeed, my Lord is a Guardian over all things).
  • (And Allah is the best of guardians, and He is the Most Merciful of the merciful).
  • (Sufficient for me is Allah; there is no deity except Him. On Him, I have relied, and He is the Lord of the Mighty Throne).
  • Ayat al-Kursi: (Allah! There is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of existence. Neither drowsiness nor sleep overtakes Him. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Who is it that can intercede with Him except by His permission? He knows what is before them and what will be after them, and they encompass not a thing of His knowledge except for what He wills. His Kursi extends over the heavens and the earth, and their preservation tires Him not. And He is the Most High, the Most Great).
  • (The Messenger has believed in what was revealed to him from his Lord, and [so have] the believers. All of them have believed in Allah and His angels and His Books and His messengers, [saying], “We make no distinction between any of His messengers.” And they said, “We hear and we obey. [Your] forgiveness, our Lord. To You is the final destination. Allah does not burden a soul beyond that it can bear. It will have [the consequence of] what [good] it has gained, and it will bear [the consequence of] what [evil] it has earned. Our Lord, do not impose blame upon us if we have forgotten or made a mistake. Our Lord, lay not upon us a burden like that which You laid upon those before us. Our Lord, and lay not upon us that which we have no ability to bear. And pardon us; and forgive us; and have mercy upon us. You are our protector, so give us victory over the disbelieving people).

Supplications for Self-Protection from the Prophetic Tradition

The Prophetic tradition includes many supplications intended for self-protection. Here are a few:

  • (In the name of Allah, with whose name nothing can harm in the earth nor in the heavens, and He is the Hearing, the Knowing).
  • (O Allah, Creator of the heavens and the earth, Knower of the unseen and the witnessed, Lord of all things and their Sovereign, I bear witness that there is no deity except You. I seek refuge in You from the evil of myself and from the evil of Satan and his allies, and from committing wrong against myself or bringing it upon a Muslim).
  • (O Allah, I seek refuge in You from worry and sadness, from incapacity and laziness, from cowardice and miserliness, from the burden of debt and the overpowering of men).
  • (O Allah, grant me health in my body; O Allah, grant me health in my hearing; O Allah, grant me health in my sight. There is no deity except You).
  • (O Allah, I ask You for wellness in this life and the Hereafter. O Allah, I ask You for forgiveness and wellbeing in my religion, my worldly matters, my family, and my wealth. O Allah, conceal my faults and grant me safety from my fears. O Allah, protect me from in front of me, behind me, on my right, on my left, and from above me. I seek refuge in Your greatness from being struck from beneath).
  • (My Lord, I ask You for the best of this night and the best of what follows it. And I seek refuge in You from the evil of this night and the evil of what follows it. My Lord, I seek refuge in You from laziness and the evils of old age. My Lord, I seek refuge in You from punishment in the Fire and punishment in the grave).

A believer can invoke any supplication they desire to protect themselves from all harm. Among these are the following:

  • “I seek refuge with Allah, the Most High, from the evil of what He has created on earth, from the evil of what emerges from it, and from the evil of every harmful creature, for You hold it by the forelock, and from the evil of the wicked and the perils and the harms of illnesses.”
  • “O Allah, guard me with Your watchful eye, shelter me with Your strong protection, and forgive me with Your power over me. Let me not be destroyed while You are my hope.”
