Components of a Vehicle

Main Chassis

All vehicle components are mounted on the main chassis, which consists of tightly welded metal frames. This structure supports essential elements such as the axles, steering system, wheels, brakes, exhaust system, fuel tank, and various accessories.

Engine

The engine serves as the primary power source for the vehicle, relying on various systems including pneumatic, hydraulic, and electrical mechanisms.

While numerous engine types exist, the most widely used is the internal combustion engine. This engine comprises several parts that work cohesively to produce kinetic energy, including the cylinder, piston, valves, crankshaft, and cooling system, among others.

Transmission

The transmission, also known as the gearbox, is one of the most complex and crucial external components of a vehicle. It consists of a mechanism of gears arranged in a specific order, which regulates the power generated by the engine to the wheels, thus enabling the vehicle to achieve various speeds through gear shifting.

It is important to note that vehicles equipped with automatic transmission systems do not require manual gear shifting, as the internal gearbox manages this function automatically.

Brakes

The brakes are utilized to reduce the vehicle’s speed and bring it to a halt. When the brake pedal is pressed, hydraulic fluid is compressed within the brake cylinder, which in turn applies force to the brakes at the wheels, effectively stopping the vehicle.

Suspension System

The suspension system acts to separate the vehicle’s body from the axle and wheels, thereby insulating the vehicle’s structure from shocks and vibrations caused by road incidents or various obstacles, such as bumps. This system absorbs impacts and prevents them from transferring to passengers or cargo inside the vehicle.

Steering System

The steering system is responsible for directing the movement and altering the trajectory of the vehicle when necessary. It primarily consists of the steering wheel and the steering column; when the wheel is turned, the motion is transmitted to the steering column, which in turn directs the vehicle’s wheels either left or right.

Battery

The vehicle’s battery stores chemical energy, which is converted into electrical energy to power the vehicle’s initial start-up and operate components that rely on electricity, including headlights, audio systems, windshield wipers, and other electrical accessories.

Alternator

The alternator is the device responsible for recharging the vehicle’s battery while driving. Since the battery’s energy is finite and depletes during operation, the alternator plays a crucial role in maintaining the battery charge and ensuring that all electrically-dependent components function properly throughout the drive.

Radiator

The radiator’s function is to cool the engine when its temperature exceeds normal levels by circulating coolant through designated paths and hoses around the engine.
