Poem: A Happy Eid Filled with Blessings
The poem “Eid Saeed Ammakom Bil Kheer” by poet Ibrahim Al-Hakeem Al-Halabi, who hailed from Aleppo, is known for his prose poetry and is reportedly related to Bishop Maximus Al-Hakeem. Due to the persecution faced by Patriarch Silvester from Cyprus against Melkite Catholics, poet Ibrahim fled to Egypt, where his complete collection of works was discovered and later destroyed by Issa Iskander Al-Malouf.

With the heartfelt longings of abundant souls,
Those that emanate from the depths of sincerity.
Carried by the winds of the deserts and youth,
To the embrace of the gardens and hills.
Specially for one who has ascended above starlight,
In greatness surpassing the sun with beauty.
I refer to the distinguished individual of eternal worth,
The esteemed figure of high regard.
Honor of the world and leader among peers,
The essence of time and fortune alike.
Who has been taken by fate from his home,
Through unfortunate events, expelled from his neighbor’s abode.
And I no longer hold thoughts of him,
As news and inquiries have dwindled.
Never did he notice that in this moment,
I have fallen into the confusion of the mind,
And have been plunged into a pit of despair.
With many thoughts and anxieties that overwhelmed,
I often hoped, ‘maybe and perhaps,’
While my heart was ablaze with anguish.
Until I lost track due to excessive waiting,
Finally, to a response of utmost patience.
And I have entangled myself in those worries,
And ignorance thrust me into that mistake.
What I uttered thereafter was only from the pressures of thought,
Therefore, I hope for your understanding and kindness.
And accept my apology without resentment.
Rather, close your eyes to what has passed,
From me, counting it as a slip or error.

Reflection One:
I present to you a gift I consider a token of Eid… My soul and heart, a bouquet of fragrant flowers… A kiss on the sweetest cheek made with love. Ramadan has departed, and Eid has arrived for you, dear ones… We are unsure whom to comfort and whom to congratulate.
