Hadiths on Acceptance of God’s Decree
- It was narrated by Shaddad ibn Aws (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: “They entered upon a sick man whom they were visiting, and they asked him: How are you doing? He replied: I am in a state of blessings. Shaddad then said: Rejoice with the expiation of sins and the removal of misdeeds, for I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) say: Allah Almighty says: ‘When I afflict a believer with a trial, and he praises Me for what I have tested him with, he will rise from his resting place as innocent of sins as the day his mother bore him.’ And Allah Almighty says: ‘I have constrained my servant and tested him; so grant him the same reward you would grant him while he is healthy.’
- Abu Musa Al-Ash’ari (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “When a servant’s child dies, Allah says to His angels: ‘Did you take the soul of my servant’s child?’ They respond: Yes. Allah then asks: ‘Have you taken the fruit of his heart?’ They say: Yes. He then asks: ‘What did my servant say?’ They reply: ‘He praised You and sought patience.’ Allah then orders: ‘Build for my servant a house in Paradise and call it the House of Praise.’
- Anas ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “The magnitude of the reward is in accordance with the magnitude of the trial. When Allah loves a people, He tests them; whoever is pleased with that has His pleasure, and whoever is displeased has His displeasure.”
- Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) related that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “Shall I not guide you to a phrase that is from beneath the Throne, from the treasures of Paradise? It is: ‘There is no power and no strength except with Allah,’ and Allah says: ‘My servant has submitted and surrendered.’
Hadiths on Acceptance of Sustenance
- Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, as relayed from Allah Almighty: “O son of Adam, devote yourself to My worship, and I will fill your heart with richness and meet your poverty. But if you do not, I will fill your hands with work and will not fulfill your need.”
- Jaber ibn Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “Do not hasten the sustenance, for no servant will die until he has received his complete provision. Therefore, be gentle in your pursuit, obtaining what is lawful and avoiding what is unlawful.”
Hadiths on Acceptance of God’s Allocations
- Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “Who will take these words from me and act upon them or teach someone who will? I said, ‘I will, O Messenger of Allah.’ He took my hand and counted five things: ‘Fear the prohibitions and you will be the most devoted of people; accept what Allah has allocated for you and you will be the richest of people; do good to your neighbor and you will be a believer; love for people what you love for yourself, and you will be a Muslim; and do not laugh excessively, for excessive laughter deadens the heart.’
- Jaber ibn Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “O people, fear Allah and be moderate in your pursuit, for no soul will die until it has fully received its sustenance, even if it is delayed. So fear Allah and be moderate in your pursuit; take what is permissible and leave what is prohibited.”
