Causes of Coronavirus Disease
The onset of coronavirus disease is attributed to the coronavirus (English: Coronavirus), a virus known to cause a variety of illnesses related to the upper respiratory system. These include infections of the sinuses, nose, or throat. If the virus spreads to the lower respiratory tract, it can lead to pneumonia. It is important to note that the coronavirus spreads through infectious droplets from person to person, as well as through contact with the bodily fluids of an infected individual, consumption of undercooked camel meat, or intake of camel dairy products. Certain groups are more susceptible to the virus, particularly healthcare workers, veterinarians, and farm workers. Multiple strains of coronaviruses exist, and infection with certain variants may result in more severe illnesses, including Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) and Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS).
Symptoms of Coronavirus Disease
Typically, symptoms associated with a coronavirus infection are short-lived. Common symptoms include:
- Sore throat
- Headache
- Runny or stuffy nose
- Cough
- Fever
- Sneezing
- Exacerbation of existing conditions, such as asthma
Prevention Methods
Currently, there is no vaccine available for the coronavirus; however, there are several precautionary measures one can take to reduce the risk of infection:
- Thoroughly wash hands with warm water and soap.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth without properly washing your hands first.
- Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing to prevent spreading the virus to others.
- Regularly clean and disinfect surfaces and objects.
