Uthman ibn Affan
Uthman ibn Affan ibn Abi al-As ibn Umayyah ibn Abd Shams ibn Abd Manaf, and his mother is Arwah bint Kirz ibn Rabiah ibn Habib ibn Abd Shams ibn Abd Manaf. Uthman’s lineage is connected to that of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) through Abd Manaf, both on his father’s and mother’s side. Uthman was among the early converts to Islam; he was introduced to the Prophet’s message by Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him). Upon hearing the Prophet’s words, he embraced Islam immediately. Uthman married Ruqayyah bint Muhammad; following her death, he married her sister, Umm Kulthum, which is why he is famously known as Dhi al-Nurayn (the possessor of two lights).
Martyrdom of Uthman ibn Affan
One day, during the turmoil of his time, Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that he had a dream in which Abu Bakr and Umar visited him, inviting him to break fast with them in Paradise. He intended to fast as he was well-known for his piety in fasting. He then ordered for a copy of the Quran and remained engrossed in its recitation until he was tragically killed.
