Prayers for Protecting Children from Illness

Prayers for Protecting Children from Illness

Inspiring Prayers from the Quran and Sunnah

Although the Quran and the Sunnah do not contain specific prayers explicitly for safeguarding children from disease, there are several well-known and general supplications that Muslims can draw upon. Below are some notable examples:

  • Surah Al-Fatiha: Allah – the Most High – states: (In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of all the worlds. The Most Gracious, The Most Merciful, Master of the Day of Judgment. You alone we worship, and You alone we ask for help. Guide us along the straight path, the path of those who have received Your grace; not the path of those who have brought down wrath upon themselves, nor of those who have gone astray).
  • Surah Al-Falaq: Allah – the Most High – says: (Say, “I seek refuge with the Lord of Daybreak from the evil of that which He created, and from the evil of the darkness when it settles, and from the evil of the blowers in knots, and from the evil of an envier when he envies.”)
  • Surah An-Nas: Allah – the Most High – states: (Say, “I seek refuge with the Lord of mankind, the Sovereign of mankind, the God of mankind, from the evil of the whisperer who withdraws, who whispers in the breasts of mankind, of jinn and men.”)
  • Surah Al-Ikhlas: Allah – the Most High – mentions: (Say, “He is Allah, One. Allah, the Eternal Refuge. He neither begets nor is born, nor is there to Him any equivalent.”)
  • Ayat Al-Kursi: Allah – the Most High – states: (Allah! There is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of existence. Neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor sleep. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Who is it that can intercede with Him except by His permission? He knows what is before them and what will be after them, and they encompass not a thing of His knowledge except for what He wills. His Kursi extends over the heavens and the earth, and their preservation tires Him not. And He is the Most High, the Most Great.)
  • Reciting the last verses of Surah Al-Baqarah: (The Messenger has believed in what was revealed to him from his Lord, and [so have] the believers. All of them have believed in Allah and His angels and His books and His messengers, [saying], “We make no distinction between any of His messengers.” And they said, “We hear and we obey; [Grant us] Your forgiveness, O our Lord. To You is the final destination. Allah does not burden a soul beyond that it can bear. It will have [the consequence of] what [good] it has gained, and it will bear [the consequence of] what [evil] it has earned. Our Lord, do not impose blame upon us if we have forgotten or made a mistake. Our Lord, and lay not upon us a burden like that which You laid upon those before us. Our Lord, and burden us not with that which we have no ability to bear. And pardon us; and forgive us; and have mercy upon us. You are our protector, so give us victory over the disbelieving people.)
  • (O Lord of mankind, take away the affliction and grant healing; You are the Healer, and there is no healing but Your healing, a healing that leaves no trace of illness.)
  • (In the name of Allah, with whose name nothing can harm in the earth or in the heavens, and He is All-Hearing, All-Knowing – recited three times.)
  • (Our Lord, Allah, who is in the heavens, may Your name be glorified. Your command in the heavens and the earth is as Your mercy is in the heavens. So, let Your mercy be upon the earth, and forgive us our sins and shortcomings. You are the Lord of the righteous. Bestow mercy and healing from Your healing upon this ailment so that it may be cured.)
