Main Islands of Bahrain
Bahrain comprises several islands, with the following being the primary ones listed in descending order of their size:
- Bahrain Island: As the largest island in Bahrain, it spans approximately 590.7 square kilometers and is home to about 940,000 residents. This island accounts for 78% of the total area of the Kingdom of Bahrain and is surrounded by an additional 33 islands. It is notable for its significant oil fields located within its territory.
- Hawar Islands: Covering an area of around 53.5 square kilometers, these islands have a population close to 4,000 inhabitants.
- Muharraq Island: Ranking as the third largest island, Muharraq measures roughly 49.3 square kilometers and is inhabited by approximately 200,000 people.
- Umm an-Nasan Island: This island ranks fourth among Bahrain’s major islands, with a size of about 20 square kilometers.
- Durrat Al Bahrain: Sharing the same area as Umm an-Nasan, this island also spans 20 square kilometers.
- Sitra Island: The smallest of the main islands, Sitra covers around 14.6 square kilometers and has a population of 81,000 residents.
Other Islands of Bahrain
Bahrain is also home to several smaller islands. Here are some of the most notable:
- Di’ar Muharraq Island: Spanning 12 square kilometers.
- North City Island: Measuring 7 square kilometers.
- Pearl Island: Covering 2.32 square kilometers.
- Noorana Island: Also measuring 2.32 square kilometers, located in the southern region of Noorana.
- Nabeel Saleh Island: With an area of 1.3 square kilometers.
- King Fahd Island: A smaller island of 0.88 square kilometers, located at the border station.
- Jeddah Island: This island spans 0.48 square kilometers and is centered around the Jeddah Palace.
- Khalifa bin Salman Island: Measuring 0.35 square kilometers, situated in Khalifa bin Salman Park.
- Hala Al-Naim Island: Consisting of two islands combined, with a total area of 0.27 square kilometers, located in the Al-Naim area.
- Umm al-Sebban Island: Covering an area of 0.23 square kilometers.
- South Sitra Island: Spanning 0.1 square kilometers, near the Southern Sitra Palace.

Number of Islands in Bahrain
The Kingdom of Bahrain is described as an archipelago consisting of 33 natural islands. The increase in the number of islands is attributed to the expansion of various development projects, bringing the total count to approximately 84 islands. Additionally, artificial islands have been created near the original ones, and the Hawar Archipelago was officially included in Bahrain’s island count in 2001.
