Agatha Christie
Agatha Christie, born on September 15, 1890, in Torquay, United Kingdom, passed away in 1976. Her father was of American descent and her mother British. Raised in a middle-class family, Agatha received her education at home, where she mastered reading by the age of five. Later, she continued her studies in Paris, France.
Agatha’s upbringing was enriched by a variety of stories and novels; her mother would read dramatic tales to her at bedtime, and her older sister often penned suspenseful narratives. Inspired by this literary environment, Agatha began writing her own stories with the help of her governess, eventually establishing herself as a successful playwright and author.
In 1914, Agatha married Colonel Archibald Christie, a pilot in the Royal Air Force. During World War I, she served as a nurse and published her first book, The Mysterious Affair at Styles, in 1920.
A Glimpse into Agatha Christie’s Life
In 1926, Agatha Christie experienced a significant emotional upheaval with the death of her mother and the discovery of her husband’s infidelity. Following this trauma, she vanished for a time, leading authorities to discover her in a hotel room in Harrogate.
Agatha divorced Archibald Christie in 1928 and remarried in 1930 to archaeological scholar Max Mallowan. Together, they undertook various expeditions, which Agatha later chronicled in a series of memoirs published in 1946.
