Hasan ibn Ali and the Noble House

Hasan ibn Ali (May Allah be pleased with him) was born on the fifteenth of Ramadan in the third year of the hijra. There are differing opinions regarding the year of his death; some say it was in the forty-ninth year, while others claim it was in the fiftieth or fifty-first year. He spent his early years under the nurturing care of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), and he, along with his father and mother, were greatly beloved by the Messenger of Allah. Numerous narrations illustrate this affection, including:

  1. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “Whoever loves Hasan and Husayn loves me, and whoever bears animosity towards them bears animosity towards me.”
  2. Ibn Mas’ud reported that the Prophet (peace be upon him) would carry Hasan and Husayn on his back while people would distance themselves from them. He would say: “Leave them, for they are my treasures. Whoever loves me should love these two.”
  3. Al-Barra’ ibn Azib narrated that he saw Hasan ibn Ali on the shoulder of the Prophet (peace be upon him), who said, “O Allah, I love him, so love him.”
  4. Usamah ibn Zayd reported that the Prophet (peace be upon him) would sit me on one thigh and Hasan on the other, saying: “O Allah, have mercy on them as I have mercy on them.”
