Supplications of Prophet Ibrahim (Peace Be Upon Him)
Prophet Ibrahim (Peace Be Upon Him), known as the father of the prophets, was renowned for his frequent prayers. The Holy Quran highlights his devotion and supplications, which we present below as they appeared in the text.
Prophet Ibrahim’s Supplication for Mecca and Its Inhabitants
Prophet Ibrahim (Peace Be Upon Him) earnestly prayed for Mecca and its people when the area was uninhabited and barren, unsuitable for agriculture. He asked his Lord to bless the inhabitants with fruits for those who believed in Allah and turned away from idol worship. Furthermore, he prayed for the acceptance of him and his son Ismail in constructing the Sacred House:
- (O my Lord, make this city secure and provide its people with fruits—whoever of them believes in Allah and the Last Day. He said, “And whoever disbelieves, I will grant him enjoyment for a little, then I will force him to the punishment of the Fire, and wretched is the destination.”)
- (O my Lord, make this city secure and keep me and my sons away from worshipping idols.)
- (And when Ibrahim raised the foundations of the House, along with Ismail, they said: Our Lord, accept this from us; indeed you are the Hearing, the Knowing.)
- (Our Lord, and send among them a messenger from themselves who will recite to them Your verses and teach them the Book and wisdom and purify them. Indeed, You are the Exalted in Might, the Wise.)
Prophet Ibrahim’s Supplication for His Offspring and Parents
After facing denial and obstinacy from his father and people, Prophet Ibrahim (Peace Be Upon Him) left his homeland in Iraq. Despite this, he never forgot to pray for his father’s forgiveness and continued to seek blessings for his son and wife, whom he left in the barren lands of Mecca. He requested that Allah provide them with sustenance and attract people to them. Indeed, Allah answered his prayers, as evidenced in the following supplications from the Quran:
- (Our Lord, make us both submissive to You and of our descendants a Muslim (submissive) nation to You. And show us our rites and accept our repentance. Indeed, You are the Accepting of Repentance, the Merciful.)
- (Our Lord, indeed I have settled some of my descendants in a valley without cultivation, near Your Sacred House. Our Lord, that they may establish prayer, so make hearts among the people inclined toward them and provide for them from the fruits so they might be grateful.)
- (Our Lord, indeed You know what we conceal and what we declare, and nothing is hidden from Allah on the earth or in the heaven.)
- (O my Lord, make me an establisher of prayer, and [many] from my descendants. Our Lord, and accept my supplication.)
- (Our Lord, forgive me and my parents and the believers the Day the account is established.)
Prophet Ibrahim’s Supplication for Himself
Furthermore, Prophet Ibrahim (Peace Be Upon Him) prayed to be granted wisdom and to be among those who attain Paradise on the Day of Judgment. He also asked Allah for a righteous and obedient son. His constant yearning was to be among those forgiven and accepted by Allah. Below are some of his supplications as mentioned in the Holy Quran:
- (My Lord, grant me judgment and join me with the righteous. And grant me a tongue of truthfulness among the later generations. And make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Delight. And forgive my father; indeed, he has been of the wrongdoers. And do not disgrace me on the Day they are resurrected—the Day when wealth and children will not benefit [anyone] except one who comes to Allah with a sound heart.)
- (My Lord, grant me righteous offspring.)
- (Our Lord, upon You we have relied, and to You we have returned, and to You is the final destination. Our Lord, make us not [a cause of] trial for the disbelievers. And forgive us, Our Lord. Indeed, You are the Exalted in Might, the Wise.)
