Qur’anic Supplications Initiated with the Phrase (Our Lord)
Supplication is a sacred act, serving as a means for believers to seek fulfillment of their needs. Numerous invocations found in the Holy Quran begin with the phrase (Our Lord). Among these are:
- (Our Lord, grant us in this world goodness and in the Hereafter goodness, and protect us from the torment of the Fire).
- (Our Lord, pour patience upon us, make our feet firm, and grant us victory over the disbelieving people).
- (Our Lord, do not impose blame upon us if we forget or make a mistake. Our Lord, lay not upon us a burden like that which You laid upon those before us. Our Lord, and lay not upon us that which we have no ability to bear. And pardon us, and forgive us, and have mercy upon us. You are our protector, so give us victory over the disbelieving people).
- (Our Lord, let not our hearts deviate after You have guided us and grant us from Yourself mercy. Indeed, You are the Bestower).
- (Our Lord, indeed we have believed, so forgive us our sins and protect us from the punishment of the Fire).
- (Our Lord, we have believed in that which You have revealed and followed the Messenger, so register us among the witnesses).
- (Our Lord, forgive us our sins and excesses in our affairs and make our feet firm and grant us victory over the disbelieving people).
- (Our Lord, You did not create this in vain. Exalted are You! Protect us from the punishment of the Fire. Our Lord, indeed, he whom You admit to the Fire, You have disgraced him, and for the wrongdoers, there are no helpers).
- (Our Lord, indeed we have heard a caller calling to faith: “Believe in your Lord,” and we have believed. Our Lord, so forgive us our sins and wipe away our evil deeds and cause us to die among the righteous. Our Lord, and grant us what You promised us through Your messengers and do not disgrace us on the Day of Resurrection. Indeed, You do not fail in Your promise).
- (Our Lord, we have wronged ourselves, and if You do not forgive us and Have mercy upon us, we will surely be among the losers).
- (Our Lord, do not make us [be] with the wrongdoing people).
- (Our Lord, pour patience upon us and cause us to die as Muslims).
- (Our Lord, do not make us a trial for the wrongdoing people, and save us by Your mercy from the disbelieving people).
- (Our Lord, forgive me and my parents and the believers on the Day the account is established).
- (Our Lord, grant us from Yourself mercy and prepare for us in our matter a right guidance).
- (Our Lord, we have believed; forgive us and have mercy upon us, and You are the best of the merciful).
- (Our Lord, accept [this] from us; indeed, You are the Hearing and Knowing).
- (Our Lord, make us submissive to You and [make] of our descendants a Muslim [i.e., submissive] nation to You. And show us our rites and accept our repentance. Indeed, You are the Accepting of repentance, the Merciful).
- (Our Lord, indeed You will gather the people for a Day about which there is no doubt. Indeed, Allah does not fail in His promise).
- (Our Lord, remove us from this city of oppressive people and appoint for us from Yourself a protector and appoint for us from Yourself a helper).
- (Our Lord, indeed You know whatever we conceal and whatever we declare, and whatever is hidden from Allah in the earth or in the heavens).
- (Our Lord, avert from us the punishment of Hell. Indeed, its punishment is ever adhering).
- (Our Lord, grant us from among our wives and offspring [the joys] of our eyes and make us the leaders of the righteous).
- (Our Lord, Your mercy encompasses all things in knowledge. So forgive those who have repented and followed Your path, and protect them from the punishment of the Blaze. Our Lord, and admit them into the Gardens of Eden which You have promised them, along with whoever was righteous among their forefathers, their spouses, and their offspring. Indeed, You are the Exalted in Might, the Wise. And protect them from evil, and whom You protect from evil on that Day, You have indeed had mercy upon him. And that is the great attainment).
- (Our Lord, alleviate from us the punishment; indeed, we have believed).
- (Our Lord, forgive us and our brothers who preceded us in faith, and let not our hearts harbor ill will toward those who have believed. Our Lord, indeed You are Kind and Merciful).
- (Our Lord, upon You we have relied, and to You we have turned in repentance, and to You is the final destination. Our Lord, do not make us a trial for those who have disbelieved and forgive us. Our Lord, indeed You are the Exalted in Might, the Wise).
- (Our Lord, complete for us our light and forgive us. Indeed, You are over all things competent).
Qur’anic Supplications Initiated with the Phrase (My Lord)
Supplication serves as a source of solace for the soul and heart, providing tranquility to individuals as they calm their senses. Among the invocations that begin with the phrase (My Lord) in the Quran are:
- (My Lord, indeed I seek refuge in You from asking You that of which I have no knowledge, and unless You forgive me and have mercy upon me, I will be among the losers).
- Supplication of Prophet Ibrahim: (My Lord, make me an establisher of prayer, and many from my descendants. Our Lord, and accept my supplication).
- Supplication of Prophet Musa: (My Lord, expand for me my breast, and ease for me my task, and untie the knot from my tongue that they may understand my speech).
- (My Lord, do not leave me alone [with no heir], while You are the Best of Inheritors).
- (My Lord, I seek refuge in You from the whisperings of the devils, and I seek refuge in You, My Lord, lest they come near me).
- (My Lord, forgive, and have mercy, and You are the best of the merciful).
- (My Lord, grant me from Yourself a good offspring. Indeed, You are the Hearing of supplication).
- (My Lord, forgive me and my brother and admit us into Your mercy, for You are the most merciful of the merciful).
- (My Lord, if You should destroy them for their wrongdoing, then I will surely be one of the losers. But are You to destroy us for what the foolish among us have done? It is nothing but Your trial; You lead astray whom You will and guide whom You will. You are our protector, so forgive us and have mercy upon us, and You are the best of the forgiving).
- (My Lord, have mercy on them as they brought me up [when I was] small).
- (My Lord, cause me to enter a good entry and exit me a good exit, and grant me from Yourself a supporting authority).
- (My Lord, indeed, harm has afflicted me, and You are the most merciful of the merciful).
- (My Lord, let me land at a blessed place, and You are the best of those who bring [to land]).
- (My Lord, grant me wisdom and join me with the righteous and grant me a mention of honor among the later generations and make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Delight. And forgive my father; indeed, he was among the mistaken, and do not disgrace me on the Day they are resurrected. The Day when neither wealth nor children will be of any benefit, but only one who comes to Allah with a sound heart).
- (My Lord, save me and my family from what they are doing).
- (My Lord, inspire me to be grateful for Your favor upon me and upon my parents and to work righteousness of which You will approve and admit me by Your mercy among Your righteous servants).
- (My Lord, indeed, I have wronged myself, so forgive me).
- (My Lord, support me against the corrupting people).
- (My Lord, build for me near You a house in Paradise).
- (My Lord, do not leave upon the earth any of the disbelievers. If You should leave them, they will mislead Your servants and not give birth except to wicked, ungrateful [children]).
- (My Lord, forgive me and my parents and whoever enters my house a believer and the believing men and believing women. And do not increase the wrongdoers except in destruction).
Qur’anic Supplications Starting with Other Expressions
In addition to the aforementioned formulations, many other Qur’anic prayers start with different expressions, such as: “O Allah,” “Sufficient for us is Allah,” “My Sufficiency,” and others, including:
- (Sufficient for me is Allah; there is no deity except Him. Upon Him I have relied, and He is the Lord of the Great Throne).
- Supplication of Prophet Yunus: (There is no deity except You; exalted are You! Indeed, I have been of the wrongdoers).
- (We have heard and we obey. Grant us Your forgiveness, our Lord, and to You is the final destination).
- (O Allah, Owner of Sovereignty, You give sovereignty to whom You will and take sovereignty away from whom You will. You honor whom You will and humble whom You will. In Your hand is all good; indeed, You are over all things competent).
- (Our Lord has encompassed all things in knowledge. Upon Allah we have relied. Our Lord, judge between us and our people in truth, and You are the best of judges).
- (Creator of the heavens and the earth, You are my protector in this world and the Hereafter. Cause me to die as a Muslim and join me with the righteous).
