The Story of Ismail and Isaac (Peace Be Upon Them)
The first wife of Ibrahim (peace be upon him) was Sarah, who was unable to bear children. Consequently, she suggested that Ibrahim (peace be upon him) marry her maid, Hagar, in hopes that Allah would bless them with a child. Ibrahim complied, and Hagar gave birth to Ismail (peace be upon him). However, jealousy arose in Sarah’s heart towards Hagar and her son, leading her to request that Ibrahim (peace be upon him) take them far away. Ibrahim obliged, bringing Ismail and Hagar to the holy city of Mecca. He prayed to Allah (the Exalted) to provide for and protect them in the land he was leaving them in. Allah answered Ibrahim’s prayer by miraculously providing the Zamzam spring for Hagar and her son.
Not long after, Allah (the Exalted) gave good news to Ibrahim and Sarah about the arrival of another child, along with the promise of prophethood for him as well. They were blessed with Isaac (peace be upon him), and it is said that Sarah was around ninety years old at the time of her pregnancy, though there are differing opinions on this. Allah Almighty states: “And We gave him good tidings of Isaac, a Prophet from among the righteous, and We blessed him and Isaac.” Prophet Isaac was known for his exemplary character and was praised by Allah (the Exalted). He was also granted prophethood, and his lineage went on to include Jacob and subsequently Joseph (peace be upon them all).
