Supplications for Ramadan

A collection of authentic supplications attributed to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) is available, particularly for those observing fasting during the blessed month of Ramadan. The concept is affirmed by the righteous predecessors, as it is said that the fasting individual has a supplication that is not rejected. The Prophet (peace be upon him) stated: “Three supplications are accepted: the supplication of the fasting person, the oppressed, and the traveler.” Below are some of these supplications:

  • Supplication upon sighting the moon: (When the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) saw the crescent moon, he would say: “O Allah, let it appear upon us with goodness, faith, safety, and Islam. My Lord and your Lord is Allah.”)
  • Supplication for the fasting person at iftar:
    • (Indeed, the fasting person has a supplication that is not rejected at the time of iftar.)
    • From Abdullah ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) who said: (The Prophet (peace be upon him) would say when he broke his fast: “Thirst has gone, the veins are hydrated, and the reward is confirmed, if Allah wills.”)
    • It is reported that Ibn Amr would say upon breaking his fast: (O Allah, I ask You by Your mercy that encompasses everything to forgive me my sins.)
  • Supplication for breaking fast with others: From Anas ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) who said: (The Prophet (peace be upon him) when he broke his fast with a household would say: “The fasting ones have broken their fast with you, and the righteous have eaten your food, and the angels have descended upon you.”)
  • Supplication for the Night of Decree: From Aisha, the Mother of the Believers (may Allah be pleased with her) who said: (O Messenger of Allah, if I know which night is the Night of Decree, what should I say? He replied: “Say: O Allah, indeed You are Most Forgiving, You love forgiveness, so forgive me.”)
  • Supplication during night prayer (Tahajjud): (The Prophet (peace be upon him) used to say when he stood for night prayer: “O Allah, to You belongs all praise, You are the Sustainer of the heavens and the earth and what is within them; to You belongs all praise, to You is the kingdom of the heavens and the earth and what is within them; to You belongs all praise, You are the Light of the heavens and the earth and what is within them; to You belongs all praise, You are the King of the heavens and the earth; to You belongs all praise, You are the Truth, and Your promise is the Truth, and meeting You is the Truth, and Your words are the Truth, and Paradise is the Truth, and Hell is the Truth, and the Prophets are the Truth, and Muhammad (peace be upon him) is the Truth, and the Hour is the Truth. O Allah, to You I submit, in You I believe, upon You I rely, to You I turn back, by You I argue, and to You I refer. Forgive me my previous and subsequent sins, what I have concealed and what I have disclosed; You are the Advance and You are the Delay; there is no deity but You.)

General Supplications

There are several fixed supplications reported from the Prophet (peace be upon him) that are commendable for Muslims to recite during the holy month of Ramadan. These include:

  • (O Allah, with Your knowledge of the unseen and Your power over creation, grant me life if You know that life is better for me, and take my soul if You know that death is better for me. I ask You for Your fear in private and publicly, and I ask You for a word of truth in pleasure and anger. I ask You for moderation in poverty and wealth, and I ask You for a bounty that never ceases, and I ask You for the comfort of my eyes that does not end, and I ask You for satisfaction after the decree, and I ask You for the coolness of life after death, and I ask You for the delight of looking at Your face and yearning for meeting You, without any affliction causing harm or a misleading trial. O Allah, adorn us with the adornment of faith and make us guides and rightly guided.)
  • From Aisha, the Mother of the Believers (may Allah be pleased with her): (The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) taught me this supplication: O Allah, I ask You for all that is good, immediate and deferred, what I know of it and what I do not know. I seek refuge in You from all evil, immediate and deferred, what I know of it and what I do not know. O Allah, I ask You for the best of what Your servant and prophet has asked You for, and I seek refuge in You from the worst of what Your servant and prophet sought refuge from. O Allah, I ask You for Paradise and for whatever brings me closer to it of words or deeds, and I seek refuge in You from the Fire and whatever brings me closer to it of words or deeds, and I ask You to make every decree that You have decreed for me good.)
  • (Supplications of the distressed: O Allah, I hope for Your mercy, so do not leave me to myself even for the blinking of an eye, and rectify for me all of my affairs; there is no deity but You.)
  • From Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her): (The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) would make the following supplications: O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the trial of the Fire and the punishment of the Fire, the trial of the grave and the punishment of the grave, and from the evil of the trial of wealth, and from the evil of the trial of poverty, and I seek refuge in You from the evil of the trial of the False Messiah. O Allah, wash away my sins with the water of snow and hail, and cleanse my heart from sins as You have cleansed the white garment from dirt, and distance me from my sins as You have distanced between the east and the west. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from laziness, old age, sin, and debt.)
  • From Anas ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him): (The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) would say: “O Allah, I seek refuge in You from incapacity, laziness, cowardice, old age, miserliness, and I seek refuge in You from the punishment of the grave, and from the trial of life and death.” In another narration, it mentions the Prophet (peace be upon him) seeking refuge from several matters, including miserliness.)

Ramadan: The Month of Supplication

Supplication holds a significant place during the month of Ramadan, as fasting individuals adhere closely to the commandments of Allah (Exalted Be He) for all believers, becoming recipients of accepted supplications by the will of Allah. It is essential for a Muslim to multiply their supplications during this blessed month, a time when Allah (Exalted Be He) honors those who fast with sincerity. Allah has mentioned in His glorious Book: (Call upon Me, and I will respond to you), which serves as clear evidence of His generosity and favor towards His servants.
