Supplications of the Messenger of Allah
The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, provided us with several supplications, which are as follows:
- (O Allah, I seek refuge in You from anxiety and sorrow, from incapacity and laziness, from stinginess and cowardice, from the burden of debt and the oppression of men).
- (Glory be to You, O Allah, our Lord, and praise be to You. O Allah, forgive me).
- (O Allah, forgive me all my sins—those that are minor and major, my first and last sins, my public and secret sins).
- (O Allah, rectify my religion which is the safeguard of my affairs, and improve my worldly life wherein is my livelihood, and amend my Hereafter to which I return, and make this life an increase for me in every good, and make death a relief for me from every evil).
- (O Allah, forgive my mistakes and my ignorance, and my excesses in my matters, and what You know better about me. O Allah, forgive my serious and trivial mistakes, my unintentional and deliberate faults, all of which are known to me. O Allah, forgive what I have done in the past and what I will do in the future, what I have concealed and what I have disclosed, and what You know better about me. You are the One who brings forth and who delays. You are capable of all things).
- (O Turner of the hearts, keep my heart steadfast on Your religion).
- (O Allah, grant us good in this world and good in the Hereafter, and protect us from the punishment of the Fire).
- (O Allah, indeed You are Pardoning and You love to pardon, so pardon me).
Times and Places of Accepted Supplications
There are specific times and locations in which Allah, the Exalted, responds to the supplications of Muslims. Here are some examples:
- The supplication of one who awakens at night while reciting the prescribed supplications, as the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said: (Whoever awakens from sleep at night and says: “There is no deity except Allah, alone with no partner, to Him belongs the dominion and praise, and He is over all things capable. Praise be to Allah, and glorified be Allah, and there is no deity except Allah, and Allah is the Greatest, and there is no power and no strength except with Allah,” then he says: “O Allah, forgive me,” or makes a supplication, is responded to; and if he performs ablution and prays, his prayer will be accepted).
- The supplication of the oppressed; as the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, stated: (The supplication of the oppressed is accepted even if he is immoral; his immorality is upon himself).
- The supplication of the distressed; as Allah says: (Is he who responds to the distressed when he calls upon Him and removes the evil?).
- The supplication of Dhul-Nun (Jonah), as mentioned by the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him: (The supplication of Dhul-Nun when he called out while inside the belly of the whale: “There is no deity except You, glorified are You; indeed, I have been of the wrongdoers.” No Muslim supplicates with it for anything, but Allah will answer him).
- The supplication of a Muslim for his brother in his absence; as the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said: (The supplication of a Muslim for his brother in his absence is accepted; there is an angel appointed at his head who, whenever he makes a supplication for good for his brother, says: “Amen, and for you the same”).
- The supplication of the traveler; the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said: (Three supplications are surely accepted: the supplication of the oppressed, the supplication of the traveler, and the supplication of a parent for his child).
- The one who frequently remembers Allah; as he, peace be upon him, stated: (Three will not have their supplications rejected: the one who remembers Allah a lot, the oppressed, and the just ruler).
- The supplication of a righteous child; as stated by the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him: (When a person dies, his deeds come to an end except for three: ongoing charity, beneficial knowledge, or a righteous child who supplicates for him).
Prayers of the Prophets in the Qur’an
The Qur’an mentions several supplications made by the prophets, peace and blessings be upon them, including the following:
- Prophet Noah, peace be upon him: (And Noah, when he called before, so We answered him and saved him and his family from the great distress. And We aided him against the people who denied Our signs; indeed, they were a wicked people, so We drowned them all).
- Prophet Abraham, peace be upon him: (My Lord, make me an establisher of prayer, and [many] from my descendants. Our Lord, and accept my supplication. Our Lord, forgive me and my parents and the believers the Day the account is established).
- Prophet Moses, peace be upon him: (He said, “My Lord, expand for me my breast and ease for me my task. And untie the knot from my tongue that they may understand my speech. And appoint for me a minister from my family, Aaron, my brother. Increase through him my strength and let him share my task in proclaiming You, that we may glorify You much and remember You much. Indeed, You are of us ever Seeing.” He said, “You have been granted your request, O Moses”).
- Prophet Joseph, peace be upon him: (He said, “My Lord, prison is more beloved to me than that to which they invite me, and if You do not avert from me their plan, I might incline toward them and be of the ignorant”).
- Prophet Job, peace be upon him: (And Ayoub when he called to his Lord, “Indeed, adversity has touched me, and You are the most merciful of the merciful.” So We responded to him and removed what was upon him of adversity, and We gave him his family and the like thereof with them as mercy from Us and a lesson for the worshippers).
