Discussions on Injustice

Injustice is regarded as one of the gravest prohibitions in Islamic law. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) warned against it and outlined its dire consequences, as highlighted in the following points:

  • The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: “Beware of injustice, for indeed, injustice will be darkness on the Day of Resurrection. And beware of greed, for greed destroyed those who came before you; it drove them to shed blood and violate sanctities.”
  • The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) stated: “Indeed, Allah Almighty grants respite to the oppressor, but when He seizes him, he will not escape. He then recited: ‘And thus is the seizure of your Lord when He seizes the cities while they are committing injustice. Indeed, His seizure is severe and painful.’
  • The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) remarked: “Whoever has wronged his brother regarding his honor or anything else, let him seek his forgiveness today, before there will be neither a dinar nor a dirham. If he has good deeds, they will be taken from him in proportion to his wrongdoing, and if he has no good deeds, he will have to bear the burden of his brother’s sins.”
  • From Sa’id bin Zaid (may Allah be pleased with him), he recounts: “A’ruwa claimed that I had wronged her, and she brought her case to Marwan. Sa’id responded: ‘I would never wrong her rights. I bear witness that I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) say: “Whoever takes a span of land unjustly will be made to wear a collar of it on the Day of Resurrection from seven earths.”

Qudsi Hadith on Injustice

It was narrated from the Prophet (peace be upon him) via Allah, who said: “O My servants, I have declared injustice forbidden for Myself and made it forbidden among you, so do not commit injustice. O My servants: All of you are misguided except for those whom I have guided, so seek guidance from Me, and I will guide you. O My servants: All of you are hungry except for those whom I have fed, so seek food from Me, and I will feed you. O My servants: All of you are naked except for those whom I have clothed, so seek clothing from Me, and I will clothe you. O My servants: You sin by night and day, and I forgive all sins, so seek My forgiveness, and I will forgive you.”

“O My servants: You will not reach a level that can harm Me, nor will you reach a level that can benefit Me. O My servants: Even if the first and the last among you, humans and jinn, were on the purest heart of any one of you, it would not increase My dominion in any way. Likewise, if the first and last among you, humans and jinn, were on the most wicked heart of any one of you, it would not decrease My dominion in any way.”

“O My servants: If the first and the last among you, humans and jinn, gathered in one place and asked of Me, and I granted each one his request, it would not diminish from what I have any more than a needle when dipped in the sea. O My servants: These are your deeds that I record for you, and I will give you your due recompense. Whoever finds good should praise Allah, and whoever finds other than that should blame no one but himself.” In another narration: “I have forbidden injustice for Myself and for My servants, so do not commit injustice.”

The Fate of the Oppressor on the Day of Resurrection

The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: “Do you know who the bankrupt person is?” They replied: “The bankrupt person among us is one who has no dirham or goods.” He said: “The bankrupt person from my nation will come on the Day of Resurrection with prayers, fasting, and charity, but he will come having cursed this one, slandered that one, eaten the wealth of this one, spilled the blood of that one, and beaten that one. His good deeds will be given to this one and that one. If his good deeds are exhausted before his debts are settled, then he will be burdened with their sins and will be thrown into the Fire.”
