The Reward of Friday Prayer
Undoubtedly, Friday holds significant importance for Muslims due to its unique status. Allah (Exalted be He) has designated it as a day of immense value, during which the gates of mercy open and blessings are bestowed. It is regarded as the final day of the week and the best among them, functioning as one of the Islamic festivals where worship and prayer converge. Numerous Hadiths from the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) emphasize the great rewards that Allah has promised to those who observe this prayer. Here are some of the notable rewards associated with Friday prayers:
- The prayer performed on Friday serves as an expiation for sins committed between the two Fridays, provided that one has not engaged in major sins. Furthermore, the reward for good deeds is multiplied by ten.
- Attending the Friday prayer early brings abundant goodness and significant rewards.
- Each step taken towards the Friday prayer is rewarded as if one had fasted for an entire year and engaged in night prayers.
The Ruling and Conditions of Friday Prayer
Friday prayer is obligatory for every Muslim male who is of age, sane, and residing in one place. It consists of two units (Rak’ahs) that replace the regular Dhuhr prayer. The obligation is waived for women, the sick, travelers, children, and similar categories. The validity of the Friday prayer depends on five conditions, outlined as follows:
- The intention to perform it.
- Adherence to its fixed timing.
- Attendance in a place where the prayer is being held.
- The presence of a sufficient number of worshippers.
- Delivery of two audible sermons before the prayer, which must be heard by a recognized number of attendees.
The Virtues of Friday
Scholars have noted that Friday is among the days commanded by Allah (Exalted be He) for previous nations; however, they strayed from the right path. The day is distinguished by unique characteristics that elevate it above other days, with scholars identifying over thirty traits that raise its status. Notably, Friday contains an hour in which Allah grants responses to supplications. It also serves as a day on which souls unite, providing the deceased with reassurance against the torment of the grave and its trials. Furthermore, Friday is the day when Allah (Exalted be He) created Adam (peace be upon him) and the day he was expelled from Paradise. It is during this day that the inhabitants of Paradise visit their Creator, the Almighty.
