Descendants of Noah After the Flood
The Prophet Noah (peace be upon him) had four sons: Shem, Ham, Japheth, and Canaan, who is also referred to as Yam in some accounts. Historians note that Canaan, or Yam, was the unfaithful son of Noah who perished in the flood alongside the disbelievers. Consequently, three sons of Noah survived, and humanity’s lineage traces back to them. Scholars affirm that all humans after Noah (peace be upon him) descended from his progeny, supported by the Divine statement: (And We made his descendants the survivors). Al-Tabari elaborated on the emergence of Noah’s descendants post-flood, stating that the Arabs and non-Arabs are descended from Shem, the Turks and Slavs from Japheth, and the inhabitants of Sudan from Ham.
The Divine Warning of the Imminent Destruction of Noah’s People
Allah Almighty appointed Prophet Noah to call his people to monotheism. However, after prolonging his mission and receiving little compliance from the non-believers, Allah informed Noah (peace be upon him) that destruction was imminent for the infidels. He instructed Noah to build an ark to safeguard himself and the believers, as a flood was destined to engulf them all. Heeding his Lord’s command, Noah undertook the difficult task of constructing the ark, which was divided into three sections: one for the believers, one for animals, and an upper compartment for birds. When the Divine command was fulfilled, torrential rain fell from the sky, and the earth overflowed with water, drowning everyone who had disbelieved in Allah and mocked His prophet.
The Submersion of the Disbelievers and the Salvation of the Believers
The Ark of Noah (peace be upon him) sailed with its occupants for as long as Allah willed, until the earth began to absorb the water, and the rain ceased. At that point, Noah’s Ark found stability. The prophet and the believers disembarked, while all others perished in the floodwaters. The earth was then populated solely with the faithful monotheists, and life on the planet began anew.
