Prayers to Soothe the Heart and Mind

Finding Peace of Mind and Heart

Achieving tranquility in the soul and calmness of the heart can be attributed to numerous factors, including the following:

  • Delegating matters to Allah and having faith that His choices are always the best.
  • Maintaining a strong connection and submission to Allah.
  • Feeling a sense of relief and hope during times of adversity and trials.
  • The pursuit of knowledge serves as nourishment for both the mind and the spirit.
  • Being persistent in supplication and sincere in one’s prayers.
  • Reciting the Holy Quran and remembering Allah regularly.
  • Embracing contentment and faith in Allah, as stated by the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him): “Whoever experiences the taste of faith will find satisfaction in Allah as their Lord, Islam as their religion, and Muhammad as their Prophet.”

Supplications for Heart and Mind Relief

A believer continuously seeks peace for their heart and mind. Here are some powerful supplications one can offer to Allah for this purpose:

  • (O Allah, I am Your servant, the son of Your servant and the son of Your maidservant; my forelock is in Your Hand. Your decree upon me is constant, and Your judgment upon me is just. I ask You by every name that is Yours, which You have called Yourself or revealed in Your Book, or taught to one of Your creation, or that You have kept to Yourself in the knowledge of the unseen, to make the Holy Quran the spring of my heart, the light of my chest, the remedy for my sadness, and the relief of my distress.)
  • (O Allah, I ask You for all that is good, both immediate and delayed, what I know of and what I do not know. I seek refuge in You from the Fire and from anything that leads to it, and I ask You for what Your Prophet Muhammad asked, and I seek refuge in You from what he sought refuge from. Whatever decree You have made for me, make its outcome a source of guidance.)
  • (O Allah, I am Your servant, the son of Your servant and the son of Your maidservant; my forelock is in Your Hand. Your decree upon me is constant, and Your judgment upon me is just. I ask You by every name that is Yours, which You have called Yourself, or revealed in Your Book, or taught to one of Your creation, or that You have kept to Yourself in the knowledge of the unseen, to make the Holy Quran the spring of my heart, the light of my chest, the remedy for my sadness, and the relief of my distress.)
  • (O Allah, I seek refuge with You from anxiety and sorrow, from incapacity and laziness, from cowardice and stinginess, from the burden of debt and the oppression of men.)
  • (I ask You by Your great name and Your ancient sovereignty, I ask You, O Allah, by the power that protected Jonah in the belly of the whale, and by the mercy that healed Job after his affliction, to not leave me with any stress, sorrow, tightness, or illness that You do not relieve. If I wake up sad, grant me joy; if I sleep in distress, awaken me in relief. If I am in need, do not leave me to anyone but You, and protect me for those who love me and keep my loved ones safe. O Allah, You do not burden a soul beyond its capacity; do not place upon me burdens that exceed my ability to bear, and distance me from the trials of this world as You have distanced the east from the west.)
  • (O Allah, I entrust to You my greatest aspirations and my smallest wishes. Protect them in the realm of Your miracle and grant me the good news of them without any power or strength from me. O Living, O Sustainer, to You alone I turn for help; rectify all my affairs and do not leave me to myself even for the blink of an eye. O Allah, if my sustenance is in the heavens, send it down; if it is on the earth, bring it forth; if it is far, draw it near; if it is near, ease it; if it is little, increase it; and if it is much, bless it, O Lord of the worlds.)
  • (There is no god but You, glory be to You; indeed I have been among the wrongdoers. O Allah, relieve my distress, ease my loneliness, and fulfill my needs and the needs of the community of Muhammad (peace be upon him). O Allah, bring me out of darkness into light, guide me in all aspects of my life, and forgive my sins, O Lord of the worlds. O Allah, do not place me among the unjust and deliver me from every narrowness, and grant me a way out after it, O Most Merciful of the merciful.)
  • (O Allah, I ask You for unwavering faith, beneficial knowledge, authentic certainty, righteous religion, and health from all afflictions. I seek complete health, continuous health, gratitude for health, and independence from people, O Allah, You who parted the sea for Moses and spoke in the cradle to Jesus.)

Morning and Evening Remembrances

The remembrances serve as a stronghold for the believer; thus, it is essential to read them daily in the morning and evening, as they contribute to achieving tranquility in the heart and mind. Here are some key remembrances:

  • Abdullah bin Umar narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) would not miss these supplications when the evening fell or the morning came: (O Allah, I ask You for well-being in this world and the Hereafter, O Allah, I ask You for forgiveness and health in my religion, my worldly affairs, my family, and my wealth. O Allah, conceal my faults and keep me safe from my fears. O Allah, protect me from all sides, from my front and behind, from my right and left, and from above me. I seek refuge in Your greatness from being taken unawares from beneath me.)
  • The Prophet (peace be upon him) taught his companions to say: (If one of you wakes up, let him say: O Allah, with You, we have awakened; with You, we have entered the evening; with You, we live, and with You, we die; and to You is the return. And when the evening comes, let him say the same.)
  • Whoever recites three times in the morning and evening: (In the name of Allah, with Whose name nothing can cause harm in the heavens or on earth; He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing), nothing will harm him.
  • The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: (If you say in the evening: I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil of what He has created, nothing will harm you.)
  • Whoever says in the morning and evening: (SubhanAllah wa bihamdiH, one hundred times) will not find anyone on the Day of Judgment who brings something better than what he brings, except for someone who says the same or adds to it.
  • Abdullah bin Mas’ud reported: The Prophet (peace be upon him) said in the evening: (We have entered the evening, and the dominion belongs to Allah. All praise is due to Allah; there is no god but Allah, the One who has no partners. He said: I see it in these: to Him belongs the dominion and praise, and He is capable of everything. My Lord, I ask You for the best of what this evening holds and the best of what comes after it, and I seek refuge in You from the evil of this evening and the evil of what comes after it. My Lord, I seek refuge in You from laziness and the evil of old age, and I seek refuge in You from punishment in the Fire and punishment in the grave. And when he awoke, he said the same: We have entered the morning, and the dominion belongs to Allah.)
  • It has been narrated by Abdullah bin Khabeeb that he said: (We went out on a rainy, dark night seeking the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) to pray for us. We caught up with him, and he asked: Did you pray? I did not say anything, and he said: Say! And I still said nothing. Then he said: Say! I said: O Messenger of Allah, what should I say? He replied: Say: {Say: He is Allah, the One} and the two chapters of seeking refuge when you enter the evening and when you enter the morning, three times, they will suffice you from everything.)
  • Abu Bakr As-Siddiq said: (O Messenger of Allah, command me with words I may utter when I wake up and when I go to sleep.) He replied: (Say: O Allah, Creator of the heavens and the earth, Knower of the unseen and the witnessed, Lord of everything and its Sovereign, I bear witness that there is no god but You. I seek refuge in You from the evil of my soul and the evil of shaytan and his deception. Say this when you wake up and when you sleep.)
  • The Prophet (peace be upon him) stated: (Whoever says in the morning: There is no god but Allah alone, without partner; His is the dominion, and His is the praise. He is capable of everything; he will have the reward of freeing a soul from the descendants of Ishmael. Ten good deeds will be written for him, ten sins will be erased, ten levels will be raised for him, and he will be safeguarded from shaytan until the evening. If he says it in the evening, he will have the same until the morning.)
