Poetic Verses about Ramadan
Poem: Ramadan
This poem, “Ramadan,” was penned by Ahmed Salem Ba’athab, a Saudi poet born in Mukalla, Hadhramaut, Yemen, in 1355 AH. He studied at King Saud University in Riyadh and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Political Science. His works encompass poetry, prose, and studies, totaling thirteen published titles.
In the blessed month of Ramadan, the vibrant days draw near,
Adorning the horizon as other months hold dear.
Its signs sparkle with truth, illuminating the night;
And its essence spreads across the earth, pure and bright.
When it arrives, our hearts proclaim its renowned grace,
Allahu Akbar! This fragrant embrace.
People rejoice—fragments of joy entwine,
As longing stirs deep within the soul’s design.
When travel’s burden ceased, it greeted with a smile,
Bringing nights adorned with countless trials.
Bodies yearning from sins, now find their way,
To seek mercy from the Lord, on this holy day.
Its refreshing currents restore hope anew,
As burdens lift, leaving behind what’s askew.
Each youth adorns themselves for solemn deeds,
Reciting the Quran, in devotion, their hearts heed.
The ten nights meld into one, in a modest guise,
Revealing the depth of sentiment that never dies.
Our cups brim with shame from past misdeeds,
Yet we endure the fever, and patience leads.
Despair dances within, exulting in our plight,
As the shadows of our past threaten the light.
Tis as if we never hailed from a nation of grace,
That adorns life with virtues held in embrace.
As the guest announces the time of parting,
News carries through verses, loud and darting.
Perhaps He tires, or our company has grown stale,
With burdens that consign us to a desolate trail.
O guest! We are captives in a worldly mire,
Our faith ignites the flame of passionate fire.
What joy lies in Eid, while complaints we share,
And love absent from the gaze, a silent despair.
Poem: O Beautiful Breezes, Come Back
This poem, “O Beautiful Breezes, Come Back,” is by contemporary Egyptian poet Gamal Morsi, born in 1957 in Kafr al-Sheikh, Egypt. Morsi is a member of the Egyptian Writers’ Union and founded the intellectual and literary forums on the internet. He has published two collections of poetry: “Exile” and “Shells of the Sea and Pearls of the Soul.”
Yesterday, we welcomed it as it arrived,
Today, it hastily departs, how it has thrived!
What a gracious guest that graced our door,
Yet left in search of the hope we adore.
As if from the Creator it came, a joyful decree,
Bringing tidings of Allah’s mercy for you and me.
It bore the message saying, “My Lord is kind,”
Erasing burdens from hearts confined.
Paradise’s doors swing open wide,
For those who repent, while the gates of Hell abide.
The devils are shackled, their whispers quelled,
Even Satan in chains, his mischief dispelled.
O month of Allah, gentle as a spring breeze,
Your light envelops the hearts, aiming to please.
How long have I awaited your luminous grace,
Calling, weeping, seeking your embrace.
But when you came, you sped away,
Like all moments fleeting—irretrievable, they sway.
O Ramadan, why did you leave us so soon?
Like racing winds, confusing and strewn?
Like flocks led to their doom,
Unaware of the storm signaling their gloom.
Did you see us as each year swiftly passed,
Building tributes that never could last?
The curse of our screens induces despair,
A venomous trap—devouring us whole and bare.
It captivates us, battling principles at stake,
In the uncertainty of night, under a shroud of ache.
Ramadan, the bloodshed of our brothers remains,
As oppressors roam wild, adorned in chains.
Not sparing the elders in prayer, nor children in need,
While our sacred land writhes and bleeds.
Ah, our Al-Aqsa is oppressed, groaning in pain,
How many have called and yet suffered the bane!
See where we have strayed, once a noble lot,
Content with mere flickers, not the stars that we sought.
O Ramadan, if you leave us, don’t forget our plea,
Back to us, kind moments of mercy, come in glee.
Bear tidings of grace as I still reside,
In the bounty of the Most Generous, my hope shall abide.
O Allah, we thank You for granting us this month of cheer,
Bestow blessings on the humble, keep our spirits near.
Grace the poor servant with forgiving embrace,
And grant remission for those who seek Your grace.

Inspiring Ramadan Reflections
Reflection One:
Everyone who believes in Allah and the Islamic faith eagerly anticipates the arrival of Ramadan, a month that graces us once a year. During this time, believers deeply desire to fast and draw closer to Allah due to the immense blessings, prayers that are answered, and the shutting of Hell’s doors while Heaven’s gates swing open wide. This holy month is an exceptional opportunity for all believers to engage in Islamic rituals, intensifying their spirituality, and serves as a significant chance for wrongdoers to repent without whispers of the devil. In Ramadan, good deeds are rewarded manifold, and every religious or charitable act accrues immense rewards from Allah. The month distinctively stands out from the rest, embodying more than mere deprivation of food and drink. Fasting extends to abstaining from all prohibitions that could render one’s fast invalid, from the moment the dawn prayer is called until the evening call to prayer for breaking the fast. Thus, we wish you a blessed season to engage in acts of righteousness.
Reflection Two:
I beseech Allah, for only in His remembrance does this world find solace, only by His forgiveness does the Hereafter find joy, and only by His ultimate visibility does Paradise shine. May He grant you steadfastness, strengthen your faith and health, elevate your position, and ease your path to Paradise. May He consider you among those liberated from the fire, and congratulations on the blessed Ramadan.
