Verses for Facilitating Childbirth
Is there evidence that specific verses help facilitate childbirth?
There is no authentic hadith that confirms certain verses from the Qur’an specifically ease the process of childbirth, nor is this mentioned within the Qur’an itself. However, Muslim women or their family members are encouraged to read any verses from the Qur’an as a form of blessing and hope for a smooth delivery. Among the verses that may be beneficial in this context are:
- As Allah, the Exalted, says: (All praise is due to Allah, Lord of the worlds, The Most Gracious, The Most Merciful, Master of the Day of Judgment. You alone we worship, and You alone we ask for help. Guide us on the Straight Path, The path of those upon whom You have bestowed favor, not of those who have evoked [Your] anger or of those who are astray).
- As Allah, the Exalted, says: (My Lord, cause me to enter a good entrance and to exit a good exit and grant me from Yourself a supporting authority).
- As Allah, the Exalted, says: (My Lord, indeed adversity has touched me, and You are the Most Merciful of the merciful).
- As Allah, the Exalted, says: (Our Lord, forgive us our sins and our transgressions in our affair).
- As Allah, the Exalted, says: (Our Lord, grant us from Yourself mercy).
- As Allah, the Exalted, says: (Our Lord, pour upon us patience and plant our feet firmly).
- As Allah, the Exalted, says: (Our Lord, and burden us not with that which we have no ability to bear. And pardon us; and forgive us; and have mercy upon us).
- As Allah, the Exalted, says: (My Lord, grant me from Yourself good offspring; indeed, You are the Hearing of supplication).
- As Allah, the Exalted, says: (My Lord, grant me righteous companions).
- As Allah, the Exalted, says: (Our Lord, judge between us and our people in truth, and You are the best of judges).
- As Allah, the Exalted, says: (My Lord, expand for me my breast and ease for me my task).
- As Allah, the Exalted, says: (Allah knows what every female carries and what the wombs lose and what they gain; and everything is with Him, in proportion).
- As Allah, the Exalted, says: (And Allah created you from dust, then from a sperm-drop; then He made you into pairs. And no female conceives or gives birth except with His knowledge. And no longer is a person given a long life or has his life shortened except that it is in a Book. Indeed, that, for Allah, is easy).
- As Allah, the Exalted, says: (And Allah brought you out from the wombs of your mothers while you knew nothing. And He made for you hearing, vision, and hearts; that perhaps you would be grateful).
- As Allah, the Exalted, says: (So be patient, as were those of determination among the messengers).
Supplications for Easing Matters
A variety of both narrated and non-narrated supplications can be employed with the intention of facilitating childbirth or any other matters. Below are some powerful supplications that may be used:
- The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: (O Allah, nothing is easy except what You have made easy, and if You wish, You can make sadness easy).
- Reciting: “There is no deity except You; exalted are You. Indeed, I have been of the wrongdoers.” This was stated by the Prophet (peace be upon him), regarding the supplication of Dhun-Nun (the Prophet Jonah) when he was in the belly of the whale: (No believer uses it in distress except that Allah answers him).
- The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) stated: (No servant is afflicted with concern or grief and says: O Allah, I am Your servant, the son of Your servant, the son of Your female servant, my forelock is in Your hand; Your command upon me is forever executed, and Your decree upon me is just).
I ask You by every name that is Yours, by which You named Yourself, or which You revealed in Your Book, or which You taught to one of Your creation, or which You kept to Yourself in the knowledge of the unseen with You; to make the Noble Qur’an the spring of my heart, the light of my chest, the removal of my sadness, and the departure of my concern. Indeed, Allah removes his sadness and worry and replaces it with joy.
- The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: (O Allah, Master of the Kingdom; You give the kingdom to whom You will and take the kingdom from whom You will. You honor whom You will and humble whom You will; in Your hand is goodness. Indeed, You are over all things competent; the Most Merciful of this world and the Hereafter, and You give mercy to whom You will, and withhold it from whom You will. Have mercy upon me with a mercy by which You make me independent of the mercy of others).
- O Allah, make my childbirth easy and bless me with the sight of my child.
- O Allah, guide me to what is right in my affairs.
- O Allah, extend Your support to me from Yourself and bring righteous servants to my aid.
- O Allah, ease my delivery and make it gentle.
- O Allah, make this childbirth easy, smooth, and blessed, akin to the blessings upon the beloved Muhammad (peace be upon him).
