Sons of Prophet Abraham

Children of Prophet Ibrahim

The Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him) had multiple wives and, consequently, several offspring. The details of his children are as follows:

  • Lady Sarah, the mother of Prophet Isaac.
  • Lady Hagar, the mother of Prophet Ishmael.
  • Lady Keturah, daughter of Yaqtan the Canaanite, who was the mother of Midian, Zimran, Jokshan, and also other children whose names are not mentioned.
  • Lady Hajjoun, daughter of Ameen, who was the mother of Suraj, Amim, Kaysan, Lutaan, and Nafs.

Ibrahim: The Father of Prophets

The title “Father of the Prophets” is attributed to Ibrahim (peace be upon him), as many prophets descended from his lineage. Scholars note that all the prophets mentioned in the Quran, with the exception of eight, are from the ancestry of Ibrahim Al-Khalil. These eight prophets are Adam, Idris, Salih, Nuh, Hud, Lut, and Yunus. Notably, Ibrahim (peace be upon him) fathered two prophets: Ishmael (peace be upon him), who is considered the ancestor of the Arabs, and from whose lineage Muhammad (peace be upon him) emerged. The second son of Ibrahim, Isaac, is the forefather of Jacob, known as Israel, from whom the Children of Israel and their prophets descended (peace be upon them).

Paternity of Ibrahim (Peace Be Upon Him)

Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him) had a profound yearning for children. It was part of Allah’s divine wisdom that the birth of Ibrahim’s children was delayed. When Allah granted him offspring, it manifested His mercy and love for them, highlighting His compassion. The news of his impending fatherhood was conveyed through divine messengers, as stated in the Quran: “And indeed, Our messengers came to Ibrahim with good news.” Ibrahim continuously prayed, as he expressed in the Quran: “Indeed, my Lord is the Hearer of supplication. My Lord, make me an establisher of prayer, and [many] from my descendants. Our Lord, and accept my supplication.” Allah (Exalted) chose Ibrahim (peace be upon him) for his virtuous traits and elevated him and his lineage as a remarkable blessing, completing the favors bestowed upon him.
