Istanbul boasts an abundance of tourist attractions, one of which is Hagia Sophia, a remarkable remnant of Byzantine civilization, whose name translates to “Divine Wisdom.” Originally a church, Hagia Sophia was later converted into a mosque. Many art historians classify its dome as one of the most beautiful in the world. The structure has undergone several renovations due to fire damage over the years. Another iconic site in Istanbul is the Blue Mosque, commissioned by Sultan Ahmed I. Traditionally, mosques are built alongside various supporting structures, such as Quranic schools, sleeping quarters, dining areas, baths, and tombs of notable figures.
