Allah has promised believers the companionship of houris in His paradise, as indicated in the following verses:
- Allah -the Exalted- says: (They will be reclining on couches lined up, and We will give them pairs of beautiful companions).
- Allah -the Exalted- says: (Thus, We will grant them pairs of beautiful companions).
- Allah -the Exalted- says: (They and their spouses will be in shades, reclining on thrones).
- Allah -the Exalted- says: (Gardens of Eden, wherein they will enter along with those who were righteous among their parents, spouses, and offspring, and the angels will enter upon them from every gate).
Quranic Verses on the Wisdom of Marriage
Marriage and procreation are significant signs of God’s creation, as mentioned in the Holy Quran:
- Allah -the Exalted- says: (And among His signs is that He created for you from yourselves spouses that you may find tranquility in them, and He placed between you love and mercy. Indeed, in that are signs for a people who reflect).
- Allah -the Exalted- says: (O mankind, fear your Lord, who created you from one soul, and created from it its mate, and dispersed from both of them many men and women. And fear Allah, through whom you ask one another, and the wombs [that bore you]. Indeed, Allah is ever, over you, Observer).
- Allah -the Exalted- says: (And Allah has made for you from your kind spouses and made for you from your spouses sons and grandsons and provided for you from the good things. Then will they believe in falsehood and deny the favor of Allah?).
- Allah -the Exalted- says: (And He it is Who created from water a human being and made him [a relative by] lineage and marriage. And your Lord is competent [concerning creation]).
- Allah -the Exalted- says: (And [forbidden to you are] the married women, except those your right hands possess. This is the decree of Allah upon you. And lawful to you are [all others] beyond these, so long as you seek [them] with your wealth, becoming chastely married, not unlawful sexual intercourse. And whoever does that has certainly overstepped the limits [of Allah]. And give the women [upon marriage] their [bridal] gift graciously. But if they give up willingly anything of it to you, then take it in satisfaction and ease).
Quranic Verses on the Legitimacy and Encouragement of Marriage
Allah has legislated marriage and encouraged it, considering it a life’s necessity and an innate, spiritual, and physical need instilled in creation. The following verses highlight the significance of marriage:
- Allah -the Exalted- says: (And if you fear that you will not be just to the orphans, then marry those that please you of [other] women, two or three or four. But if you fear that you will not be just, then [marry only] one or those your right hands possess. That is more suitable that you may not incline [to injustice]).
- Allah -the Exalted- says: (And marry those among you who are single and [also] the righteous among your males and females. If they should be poor, Allah will enrich them from His favor. And Allah is All-Encompassing and All-Knowing).
- Allah -the Exalted- says: (And We certainly sent messengers before you and We made for them spouses and offspring. And it was not for a messenger to bring a sign except by permission of Allah. For every period is a decree).
- Allah -the Exalted- says: (And those who say, “Our Lord, grant us from among our wives and offspring comfort to our eyes and make us an example for the righteous).
- Allah -the Exalted- says: (So We responded to him, and We gave him Yahya, and amended for him his wife. Indeed, they were hastening to good deeds and invoking Us in hope and fear, and they were to Us humbly submissive).
- Allah -the Exalted- says: (And indeed, He created the pairs, male and female).
- Allah -the Exalted- says: (And if he divorces her, then she is not lawful to him afterward until she marries a husband other than him. And if he divorces her, there is no blame upon them both if they return to each other, assuming they can keep within the limits of Allah. And these are the limits of Allah which He makes clear to a people who know).
Quranic Verses on Duality in Creation
Marriage is not limited to male and female; everything God created exists in pairs, showcasing the greatness of Allah -the Exalted-. The following verses reflect this concept:
- Allah -the Exalted- says: (O mankind, if you are in doubt about the Resurrection, indeed, We created you from dust, then from a sperm drop, then from a clinging clot; then we made you a chewed lump, fully formed and unformed. And We establish in the wombs what We will for an appointed term; then We bring you out as infants; then you attain [your] mature state; and among you is he who is taken in death, and among you is he who is returned to the most decrepit age so that he knows not after having known a thing. And you see the earth barren, but when We send down upon it rain, it quivers and swells and grows from every beautiful kind [of plant]).
- Allah -the Exalted- says: (And do they not see the earth, how much We have produced therein from every noble kind?).
- Allah -the Exalted- says: (In them are fruits of every kind, in pairs).
- Allah -the Exalted- says: (Exalted is He who created all pairs, from what the earth grows and from themselves and from that which they do not know).
- Allah -the Exalted- says: (And of the flocks are eight mates: of sheep two and of goats two. Say, “Is it the two males that are forbidden or the two females, or that which the wombs of the two females contain? Inform me with knowledge if you should be among the truthful).
