Traditional Supplications for Seeking Provision

There are several well-known prayers that one can recite to humbly ask Allah (SWT) for sustenance and provision. Here are some of these supplications:

  • Frequent seeking of forgiveness, as indicated by Allah (SWT): “So I said, ‘Seek forgiveness from your Lord. Indeed, He is Ever Forgiving. He will send rain to you in showers and give you increase in wealth and children and provide for you gardens and provide for you rivers.’”
  • The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) stated: “O Allah, I seek refuge in You from anxiety and sadness, from incapacity and laziness, from cowardice and stinginess, and I seek refuge in You from the burden of debt and from the oppression of men.”
  • The Prophet (peace be upon him) also said: “O Allah, I seek refuge in You from laziness and old age, from sin and from burden, and from the trials of the grave and the punishment of the grave, and from the trials of Fire and the punishment of Fire, and from the evil trial of wealth. I seek refuge in You from the trial of poverty, and I seek refuge in You from the trial of the Dajjal (the false messiah). O Allah, wash away my sins with snow and hail, and purify my heart from sins as you have purified the white garment from dirt, and keep me distant from my sins as you kept the East and West apart.”
  • The Prophet (peace be upon him) prayed: “O Allah, suffice me with what is lawful, keeping me away from what is unlawful, and enrich me with Your grace from those besides You.”
  • The Prophet (peace be upon him) remarked: “O Allah, Master of the Kingdom, You give sovereignty to whom You will and take sovereignty away from whom You will. You honor whom You will and humble whom You will. In Your hand is good; indeed, You are over all things competent. You are the Most Merciful in this world and the Hereafter. You give to whom You will and withhold from whom You will. Grant me a mercy that will suffice me over the mercy of others.”
  • He also said: “There is no one who has ever experienced sorrow or grief, and says: ‘O Allah, indeed I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your maidservant. My forelock is in Your hand. Your decree upon me is executed, and Your judgment upon me is just. I ask You by every name that belongs to You, which You have named Yourself, or revealed in Your Book, or taught to one of Your creatures, or kept to Yourself in the knowledge of the unseen, to make the Quran the spring of my heart, the light of my breast, the banisher of my sadness, and the alleviation of my grief,’ except that Allah (SWT) will remove his grief and replace it with joy.” The companions asked, “O Messenger of Allah, should we learn these words?” He replied, “Yes, anyone who hears them should learn them.”
  • The Prophet (peace be upon him) stated: “O Allah, Lord of the heavens, Lord of the earth, and Lord of the Mighty Throne, our Lord and the Lord of all things, Splitter of the grain and the date seed, and Revealer of the Torah, the Gospel, and the Criterion, I seek refuge in You from the evil of everything You have control over. O Allah, You are the First; there is nothing before You, and You are the Last; there is nothing after You. You are the Most High; there is nothing above You, and You are the Most Near; there is nothing below You. Erase our debts and enrich us from poverty.”
  • The Prophet (peace be upon him) concluded with: “O Allah, forgive me, have mercy on me, guide me, grant me health, and provide me sustenance.”
