Father of the Prophet Ismail
Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) is recognized as the father of Prophet Ismail (Ishmael), peace be upon them both. He was born in the land of Babylon, where his father crafted idols, traded in them, and worshipped them. Notably, Prophet Ibrahim is regarded as one of the esteemed messengers of Allah (God), belonging to those who possess great resolve. He lived during the reign of a tyrannical king, Nimrod son of Canaan, who falsely claimed divinity. From a young age, Ibrahim rejected the misguided beliefs of his people. At the age of forty, Allah entrusted him with the mission of inviting his community to recognize the oneness of the Creator of the universe.
Mother of the Prophet Ismail
The honorable Hagar, an Egyptian woman, is known as the mother of Prophet Ismail, peace be upon him. At the time, Ibrahim’s wife, Sarah, had not borne him any children. Consequently, Sarah suggested that her maid, Hagar, marry Ibrahim. Hagar conceived and gave birth to Ismail when Ibrahim was eighty-six years old, thirteen years prior to Sarah giving birth to Isaac (Ishaq), peace be upon him, after Allah had blessed Ibrahim with the promise of another son.
Children of the Prophet Ismail
Prophet Ismail married a woman from the tribe of Jurhum. Following his father’s guidance, he eventually divorced her and wed another woman named from Bint Mudhajj bin Amr al-Jurhumi. She bore him twelve sons, including Nabt and Qaidar, who are recognized as the ancestors of the Arab people. Other sons included Adabil, Mebsha, Masma, Dama, Mas, Adad, Watur, Nafis, Tuma, and Qaidiman. It is worth mentioning that these names might be referred to differently in various accounts. Prophet Ismail, peace be upon him, lived for 137 years and was laid to rest in Al-Hijr next to his mother, Hagar, may her soul rest in peace.
