Prior to his conversion to Islam, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) would pray for Allah to strengthen Islam through one of the two ‘Umar’s, referring to Umar ibn al-Khattab. Allah answered this prayer and guided Umar’s heart towards Islam. He was renowned for many admirable qualities and traits, including:

  • His humility; it was reported that he would address the people while wearing a patched garment that had twelve patches.
  • His devotion; he was known for his extensive acts of fasting and night prayers.
  • His deep fear and reverence for Allah; he often expressed concerns about his accountability during his leadership, fearing that Allah would question him about an animal that died on the banks of the Euphrates.
