Prayers for Healing from the Holy Qur’an
The entirety of the Qur’an is a source of blessing and healing. A Muslim can recite any verses from the Holy Qur’an with the intention of seeking recovery. Additionally, there are specific verses recommended for healing, as guided by the Prophet Muhammad. Below are some examples:
- (In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of all the worlds. The Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Master of the Day of Judgment. You alone we worship, and You alone we ask for help. Guide us on the Straight Path, the path of those who have received Your grace; not the path of those who have brought down wrath upon themselves, nor of those who have gone astray).
- (Allah! There is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of existence. Neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor sleep. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth. Who is it that can intercede with Him except by His permission? He knows what is before them and what will be after them, and they encompass not a thing of His knowledge except for what He wills. His Kursi extends over the heavens and the earth, and their preservation tires Him not. And He is the Most High, the Most Great).
- (Say, ‘He is Allah, One. Allah, the Eternal Refuge. He never begot nor was begotten. And there is no one comparable to Him.’)
- (Say, ‘I seek refuge with the Lord of daybreak from the evil of that which He created and from the evil of the darkness when it settles and from the evil of the blowers in knots and from the evil of an envier when he envies.’)
- (Say, ‘I seek refuge with the Lord of mankind, the Sovereign of mankind, the God of mankind, from the evil of the whisperer who withdraws, who whispers in the breasts of mankind from among jinn and mankind.’)
Healing Prayers from the Prophetic Tradition
There are numerous supplications that the Prophet Muhammad recommended for recitation during times of illness. Believers are encouraged to use these prayers, as well as to express their own words when seeking healing. The following are some of the significant supplications:
- (Remove the affliction, O Lord of mankind, and heal for You are the Healer. There is no healing except for Your healing, a healing that leaves no illness behind.)
- (Whoever among you feels pain or someone complains of pain, let him say: Our Lord is Allah, who is in the heavens; holy is Your name. Your command is in the heavens and on earth. Just as Your mercy is in the heavens, let Your mercy be upon the earth. Forgive us our shortcomings and sins; You are the Lord of the righteous. Send down a mercy from Your mercy and healing from Your healing upon this pain, and may he be cured.)
- (Place your hand on the afflicted area of your body and say ‘In the name of Allah’ three times. Then say seven times, ‘I seek refuge in Allah and His power from the harm of what I feel and fear.’)
- (I ask Allah, the Almighty, Lord of the Mighty Throne, to grant you healing.)
- (In the name of Allah, may He grant you wellness from every ailment, and protect you from the harm of the envious when they envy, and from all who may cast the evil eye.)
