Ethics in Islam
- Islam grants a prominent position to ethics, intertwining its principles with the propagation of virtuous morals. A fundamental focus of Islamic legislation is to rectify the moral corruption instigated by pre-Islamic practices within society. This is vividly illustrated by the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) in his saying: “I have only been sent to perfect good character.”
Righteous morals are a cornerstone of Islam, essential for the religion’s foundation. They serve as a criterion for distinguishing among individuals, whereby the best of people in faith are those of the finest character. In this regard, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) stated: “The most complete believers in faith are those who have the best character, and the best among you are those who treat their women well.”
- God has praised Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) for his exemplary character in the Quran, commanding believers to emulate his traits until the Day of Judgment. Moreover, many noble qualities and virtuous ethics are reflective of God’s attributes, such as His mercy, as He loves mercy and those who embody it among His servants.
This article will explore the positive impact of good ethics in fostering a healthy society.

Good ethics foster love and compassion among community members. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) remarked: “You cannot encompass people with your wealth, but you can encompass them with a cheerful face and good character.”
Encouraging Cooperation and Teamwork
Exemplary ethics instill trust among individuals and combat unethical behaviors, allowing individuals to engage freely without the fear of betrayal or treachery from fellow community members.
Helping Individuals Avoid Ignorance
By steering clear of the ignorant, one promotes peace and tranquility in society, focusing on beneficial endeavors. God states in His Holy Book: {Take what is given freely, enjoin what is good, and turn away from the ignorant. And if an evil thought comes to you from Satan, seek refuge in Allah; indeed, He is Hearing and Knowing.}
