Verses in Praise of God

Supplication

  • Quoting the words of Abdul Rahman Al-Ashmawi:

Invoke your plea, for the heavens will open wide

And the narrow confines of sorrow will expand

Invoke sincerely, and you will see the light pouring down

And witness your desires manifesting as answered prayers

Your supplications are not to humans, rather

You seek the Creator, the Sustainer, the Giver

You ask God, the Omnipotent, when He determines

A decree that bends the very causes to your will

Do not fear the tyrants’ might, if they

Ignite the flames of discord and upheaval

O beloved inquirer, take heed

Before you adorn your question with reproach

Ah! If only the contents of my heart were unveiled

You would feel my torment, my yearning, and my despondency

If you pondered what lies within my chest

Your eyes would see a heart melting in grief

And you would witness my defense

In a time that separates beloved ones.

Gratitude to God as It Should Be

  • Quoted from Lisan Al-Din Al-Khatib:

Gratitude belongs to God, as it ought to be

For He is the one who cloaks Himself in the robe of honor

The Hidden and the Manifest, the Truth that eludes

Comprehension, no matter how intensely one seeks

He transcends descriptions that no one can grasp

And is above any cause from which causes arise

Gratitude to God in beginning and conclusion

For He is more generous than those who give or bestow

Then blessings upon the radiant light and upon

His Signs, for they have left no room for deceit or falsehood

Mohammed, the best of those whose intercession is sought

Tomorrow, and each individual will be rewarded for their deeds

He is the one of miracles, the evidence of which

Became apparent for the people in wondrous signs

There is nothing like the Book of God as a miracle

It remains through ages, even if time passes or fades

May blessings be upon the one who bestowed upon him the light of guidance

Whenever the winds blow from the southern direction

And may Allah be pleased with Abu Bakr and Omar

The leaders chosen for the ummah after him

Followed by Uthman, the possessor of two lights

Who secured glory that was inherited and acquired

And among them, Ali, the father of the two grandsons

The Prophet’s sword that no one could falter

Along with all the esteemed family and companions

Who shone like stars in the sky of the ummah

And after the Ansar, they have virtues

That astound those who count or enumerate

They welcomed him in fear when he settled among them

Fighting back against those who defied his faith

And they bequeathed from the Sons of Nasr, for his support

Successors who linked together the connections afterwards

And like Joseph, our master, whose legacy was honored

By his descendants, the noble leaders

After this introduction of sincere words

I have traversed through glorious attributes

A leadership that has become synonymous with victory for its dome

A pillar of honor, and we stood like a fortress around it

I have followed the path of Imam Abu

And often the noble child resembles his father

Thus, the first thing I presented in my youth

After collecting virtue and manners

Was to embed the Book of Allah as my foundation

For the soul finds no toil in obtaining it

It was as if each time I recited it with my mouth

I inhaled the scent of musk or savored sweet nectar

Until I was granted a portion of it to secure

Its preservation, and Allah made it easy for me to attain

And soon, by God’s will, I will commit it to memory

For perhaps, those who seek will reach their aspirations

May Allah reward the Commander of the Believers, Abu

With the best reward, for how deserving he is

And the blessings that have enveloped me from him

And in the realm of grace, clouds have gathered for me

Qais named me and connected me to my father

Qais ibn Sa’d; behold the greatness of this lineage

With what gratitude shall we repay the essence of His blessing

If Sihban or Quss were to be called forth

And may Allah reward my ancestors with His mercy

To all who aided, inspired, or scribed

Gratitude to God, as a conclusion, after the opening

What is the rain, or what is the cloud that descended.

Be with God, and You Will See God with You

  • Quoted from Abdul Mughni Al-Nabulsi:

Be with God, and you will witness God’s presence with you

Leave everything behind and be wary of your desires

Be content with what you have received

In all the existence, until it encompasses you

Cleansed of the murk of material things, come away

Cast aside distractions and reject your deceptions

Do not deny yourself and seek from yourself what

You fled from on that fateful day of your loss

And incline towards that hill

And should you arrive at the abode of Salma, pause

For I yearn greatly and feel deeply

May love, through reunion, grant kindness to us

And say to the one who reproaches: blessed is he

For he has become among the people of purity.

With God

  • Quoted from Abdul Muti Al-Dalati:

With God in my heart when it breaks

With God in my tears when they flow

With God in repentance, despite my desires

With God in sin when it conceals

With God in spirit above the heavens

With God in body when I stumble

He calls and addresses: O my Creator!

I have stumbled… I have erred… where can I escape?

With God in the morning breezes

And at dusk under the moonlight

With God in wakefulness at dawn

With God in sleep after a night of wakefulness

With God at daybreak… with God at noon

With God in the afternoon… and at twilight

With God in silence… with God out loud

And when we strive, and when we gather

With God upon the return of the estranged

And the reunion with loved ones after a journey

With God in the tear of the remorseful

With God in the other tears

They speak and reveal their secrets

And in their purity, the moon bathes

With God in the flow of the winds

Stirring the clouds, producing the rain

Life awakens… and the plants grow

The flowers bloom… and the fruits ripen

With God in the wound when it heals

With God in the fracture when it mends

With God in adversity when it lifts

With God in the sorrow when it fades

With God in the stillness of the heart

And in yielding to the decree and fate

With God in the determination of the struggle

Leading the lions against the disbelievers

With God when the ranks come together

And in steadfastness, and after victory

With God when the conscience ignites

And the insight awakens… the sight clears

And during bowing… and during humility

And at the stage when the verses are recited

With God before the dawn of life

And after death… beneath the graves

With God when we cross the bridge

We seek refuge with Him from Hellfire

With God at the lote tree of the utmost boundary

With God when the gaze becomes pleasant.
